I set the standard for the final that year, for I did it in story form. In costume.
I did that in HS for a project on Helen Keller-for the project I wrote a poem and a short speech(about the ACLU-she co-founded it)-dressed in appropriate clothing for Ms. Keller and recited the poem/speech while keeping my eyes totally unfocused-teacher still shows his students that video-with the commentary-"this is how it should be done"
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

I give props to that professor. I've always said that if all the students fail a test or class then its the teachers fault.
One of my University math courses (graded out of 75 due to it being a 1 1/2 unit course, with a "unit" being one lecture hour per week for the entire year - this course was 3 hours a week for half a year) had a very high failure rate (IIRC, at least a third of the class), based on the marks posted on the prof's door at the end of the year. This was even though the marks must have been heavily scaled - I had 74/75, despite having (stupidly) not seen one of the questions on each of the 2 midterms, so for the results to have been "uncooked" I would have had to have got at least 120% on the final.
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

I despise word limits, especially for language courses. I can cope with them in the other subjects I've done, but the one I had for my final assignment in German was ridiculous. We had to read 4 articles on different topics, listen to a radio programme which covered two additional topics, choose two, form our own opinion on the opinions expressed, offer solutions and back it up with references. We also had a list of grammar points to be used in the written response to prove that we'd learned them. Maximum of 400 words.
I found it just wasn't enough to get all the grammar in and form a coherent argument. I could have gone on for ages on the topic we were given (Life in the Future), but had to keep it concise, which annoyed me.

I didn't like uni very much when I was a full-time student, but I'd really love to go back to it now. I'm part-time at the moment, but not on campus, and I really miss it.

Hah, oh man I'm glad I'm an art student. Only have to write papers for ENG 102.. max so far has been three pages. I struggle to write it though. Our 102 class is more about analyzing literature than anything (you learn plenty of new vocabulary in context). We're reading short stories and a lot of them bore me to tears so much that writing an essay is like beating myself in the head.

Can't stand the guys in class who whine about having to do it in time

As for limits on papers -- I can certainly understand a minimum length...But a maximum should be more forgiving. Something like "3 to 6 pages" makes more sense than an explicit word count. I suppose that the teacher could have been trying to get students to be concise, tho...

Most of my courses are limit of x words. If your paper is more than 10/25% over you will lose marks.

You then learn..if you paper is UNDER by more than 10/25% you lose marks...unofficially.
