Our KFC is pretty good with wait time... Of course, they're also flanked by a Pizza Hut and a Taco Bell, so they have to be as fast as Taco Bell without being sloppy about it so we don't walk next door But... I LOVE KFC's chicken... I love their grilled chicken, especially. I grew up on Mother's fried chicken.. Sans breading, straight-up fried in a pan, get some flour and other spices and make gravy with the grease and some water... Mmmmmm.... ....... Darn, now I want chicken

But what has REALLY good biscuits around here... Is Pollard's. They make something like little doughnut hole biscuits.... Sogood... So addicting... Now I want an order of them

Curse you, you made me crave!
    Look, a signature!

You uh, realize that all 3 are the same company, and indeed, you can often find 2 or all 3 of them under the same roof? Every Taco Bell I've been to in the past few years generally had some Pizza Hut offerings, every KFC I've been to in the past few years had some Pizza Hut offerings as well. A few have all 3.

I used to call the KFC across from my old Papa John's store.. "Kentucky Taco Hut". They served a limited Pizza Hut menu (basic pizzas and breadsticks), a full taco bell menu, and a full KFC menu. They even did delivery out of that store for a few years.

      (hint: look up "Yum! Brands")

I can kinda understand KFC sharing a roof with Taco Hell, there's not much crossover there...But I've seen some where it's KFC and Long John Silver's (fried seafood)...That just makes me wonder if they're frying both in the same machines/oil. Ewwww.

In the town where my parents live it's been a KFC/A&W for years now, in my town it's KFC/Taco Bell.

Where I work it's actually a stand alone KFC! Didn't think they existed anymore.

The one near my parents and near my work are terribly slow, with my parents town being the worst.

The one in my town is pretty good. The only time they were really slow was when they gave my order to someone else and I had to get a manager involved to get my food because one guy in the back refused to make mine again because "I already made it"

Really? I think that most, if not all, of the ones here are stand-alone.

We have standalone, too. I'm not sure just what the criteria are for combining them.

Yeah, around here all new ones are combos, and the one near my parents used to be but they added the A&W a few years back.

I didn't pay attention to KFC's in my travels to Florida last month, but it's rare I see a stand alone.

The only "A&W" I've ever heard of is a brand of root beer o_O

                    Oh, that's easy:

                    - Mixed demographics in the area

                    - Busy street

                    - Access to a Megazord

                    - Color-coded costumes

                    - Really badly-made rubber monsters

                    - Ancient Spirit of Foodservice to hand out rings (Chicken! Pizza! Fish! Steak! Tacos!... By your powers combined, I am Captain Cholesterol!)

I think we have two, maybe three combo stores here total. The others (all four of them - they can't really compete with Popeye's, which was founded here) are standalones.

                      Same company.

They sell A&W Root beer (and floats, etc) along with hamburgers, hotdogs, cheese curds, that kind of stuff.

I actually work in a KFC Taco Bell combination that's surrounded by other food places. The only explanations I can give for why it took so long is that perhaps the worker was new and unsure about things. I sometimes even need to go back if they put one of the food items somewhere wierd or if a customer wants us to do something special that I need to ask the manager about. It also could have been that they were out of biscuits or something and had to wait for them, but they should have told you about that.

The reason why you can sometimes have to wait for chicken is, at least at the one I work at, that it can be a pretty slow day where we are trying to not make excess so we don't need to waste it and then someone orders something insane like 50 pieves of dark crispy chicken, it happens. We won't even have that much at once and they will need to wait. if they would just call in that we would have it for them no problem and we'd be able to have that chicken for other people too by cooking up a special batch for the call in order ready for when they get there, but they just come in and leave us without any of a certain kind of chicken.

I can certainly understand that. My gripe is for those times -- which, sadly, outnumber the times where this does NOT happen -- when I can SEE all of the available chicken in the warming rack, no big orders come thru in the time I'm there, yet it will take them ages to get around to pulling the food. I actually often base my order upon what I can actually see up there. If there are only three pieces of XTC in sight, for instance, I'm not gonna ask for that kind, unless I am told that they have some of it coming out of the fryer shortly.

We had the same concerns back at "DaddyJim's Pizza" -- we would pull dough trays from the walk-in, a certain number at a time, based on the estimated sales of each -- The paddies CAN be worked when cold, but the pies will end up smaller and tend to curl at the edges if they're still cold. If we got some mammoth order with no warning, then everybody would start getting those cold ones very soon thereafter -- if we thought we could make it with ten trays, we'd pull ten or eleven to warm up -- not thirty. Spoilage, as with KFC, is an issue as well. If it stays out too long, or if it's too hot, the dough will become "blown" -- too big, too soft and sticky, and soggy. Pies can be made from those in a pinch, but we avoided it whenever possible. as this would cause them to have waaaay more bubbles than usual, they just came out FUGLY. They got tossed or made into food for the people working there (better that than tossing out a $2 dough round)

That's what we've got here, too. Well, at least in Rio Rancho. Don't know about ABQ. Don't get on the other side of the river too much.
