I meant to tell Victoria J that since I haven't been to the theater in so long, I really don't know what they are charging now. But I think I paid around seven Yankee dollars to see the last flick I saw.
Which is way too much money to pay to see a movie you're going to miss parts of anyways due to having to watch it while all the chaos and noise (and, of course, fighting) is going on.
Situations like these are the reasons I dont go to the movies between November and February if I can help it. Also, If its a film a really want to see, I will pay the ransom and go to gold class (about $35AUD). There are only about 40 seats, and you have to be over 16. The seats are so big, comfy and recline and you can order food and drinks before hand and staff bring them into you.
The Dark Knight and Star Trek were brilliant in this format.

"We don't have a gold plated toilet"

While I find movie prices simply outrageous and wind up with some kind of sucky story (I don't always post them all) after going to the movies as much as I do, I cannot justify (myself that is) quitting movie-going.
#1...I cannot wait for every movie to come out on video
#2...While Netflix is very affordable, like I said, I don't want to wait for movies to come out, and it doesn't help that I have the most piddly TV (yeah, I know, I should be thankful I even have one) with no speakers or any kind of surround sound or HD to it.
#3...Even if I had a bigger, better TV and better sound quality...remember where I live and my neighbors. It's not like I'd be able to take advantage of it anyway.
I am a horror movie geek. I loved Paranormal Activity. It definitely had a creep out factor. The bf doesn't like scary movies because he actually gets scared, he was absolutely freaked out when we left and barely talked at all for 2 days. I had nightmares, although strangely, not about the movie itself. The coming attractions for that alien movie, the part where they show the morphing owl face.. Yeah, I dreamt about THAT alllll night. Every time I closed my eyes I could see it rushing towards me from inside my eyelids. I woke up a couple of times in the night and was terrified of every damn shadow and would actually flinch, until I figured out what it was. It doesn't help that I'm extremely blind without my contacts, so I had to really try to discern what I was seeing.
I don't get nightmares from scary movies. If that tells you anything.
Unfortunately, this movie does seem to really perpetuate audience misbehavior. I will blame the film style. Most people are used to movies where there is constant noise and dialogue and they need that to get fully absorbed. Paranormal Activity is filmed "home movie" style, so there is a lot of quiet and limited dialogue. So for those people who need constant stimulation to stay involved, they will be more likely to tune out the movie and start socializing with friends or other asshattery.
Plus for some reason, teens find long periods of silence awkward and think they need to be funny to break that up. As exampled in the most recent Harry Potter movie, the "moment of silence" after dumbledore died was added to create a sense of drama and reverence, and I think every single person who talked about seeing that movie has mentioned "some asshole thought it'd be funny to make farting/snoring/shrieking noises" during that scene.
