My coworker was on the phone last week from work, cancelling her mother's phone and internet service. She was really starting to growl at the agent as she kept telling him there was no forwarding number, yes she really did want to cancel these services, etc.

I wished she would just finally tell the guy that her mother had just died and it would be really nice if there was a forwarding number. But she managed to keep her patience.

I had a similiar problem with one company canceling my Dad's magazines. I lost my patience and asked "Are you going to personally dig up his coffin, place each month's issue inside and rebury him?" All of a sudden, they were willing to cancel the subsciption (& yes, I had mentioned he had passed away at the beginning of the call).

Sounds a lot like my roommate's former bank. She closed her account when they drastically changed the policy about minimum balances. I was out in the car waiting while she did this and it seriously took her ages because they kept trying to get her to upgrade her account instead of closing it.

I kinda wish I'd gone in with her because she's too nice and isn't good with the word "no" most of the time. Thankfully, this was a case where she had to put her foot down since at the time, she couldn't afford to keep $100 in her checking account at all times.

But no, you weren't sucky at all. You were more patient than I would have been, anyway. I get the whole "corporate's making me try to sell you shit!" deal, but there's a certain point where it becomes completely counterproductive to their cause, and just irritates their customer base instead of drawing them in.
I have CDO. It's kinda like OCD, but the letters are where they should be!

After Tuesday, even the calendar goes W T F...

          AD&D* insurance rider
please tell me i'm not the only one who thought, "how can a role playing game help with insurance?"

i had a little trouble when i canceled AOL mostly cos i canceled it before the free month was up. first guy lied and told me my account was on update status and i'd have to call back in 2 days.

i called back 20 minutes later and the tech canceled me.

ironically when i got rid of cable back in 2004 there was no trouble. they asked me why and ... i think my answer surprised them. "My apartment was broken into and my computer and TV were stolen"

          think it was twc.

mom on the other hand had an easy time getting rid of AOL - her reasons were "personal"
and in ny state they passed a law outlawing companies from giving out bonuses for customer retention (because of all of the fraud)

You weren't... I was hoping there'd be a hot orc involved with that insurance policy...

This one's easy. Tell them you already have an AD&D* insurance rider through work as one of your benefits. They should give up at that point.
              Don't bet on it.

When I replaced Earthlink as my DSL provider (I've got a thread about it), the rep tried to upsell me on new services every time she opened her mouth. I just kept repeating that I'd already replaced them so shut it down, already. A 5-minute task took me nearly half an hour, and that was with me being semi-bitchy after the third offer. Man, I hate Earthlink these days. So glad I dumped them.
