I gave the employee everyone's suggestions. He said he would like to report the managers to corporate, but he also knows that there would be serious retaliation against him and he really needs his job. I guess it would be a 50/50 chance of either the managers getting fired and him getting commended, or the managers being investigated, nothing being done, and him getting fired for ratting them out.

I don't know if something like this is reportable to the FBI; I wonder how much information they need; names of the managers, name of the movie, etc.?
All of it. Also, its illegal to give retaliation, another thing to tell corporate. They'll be watching for that too, and it be all the more reason they'll scream at the manager who would dare do anything to him.

I'm sorry to say that I break the food rule all the time. I sneak in soda and a candy bar. I can barely afford the tickets, let alone the 4 bucks it is for a small cup of soda, and the 3 bucks for the same candy bar that I can pay a buck for somewhere else.

      illegal copying...

hell you should see what they do to Navy ships.

One ship got caught copying the films on loan to them from the Naval Media Center... They were lucky to not lose their equipment. If the other ships were like my first one... the ship only owned one rack with single 8mm player in it - everything else... all the other players, and the tapes themselves belonged to the Naval Media Center.

but anyway the ship that got in trouble didn't lose their equipment
BUT they got hit with a $20,000 fine
and they lost the rights to some of the new movies coming out.

so yeah they take that stuff seriously

I may have crocked knees, but I think I could possibly manage a dance or three (for the length of the film) in front of the camera...

        Just amusing myself.

There was serious copying going on in Korea when I was there. The Army base I was at had an on-base broadcasting channel, and every week they would play a new movie that someone had gone to a local theater to videotape. The crappy quality of the movie and the occassional jiggling view were the first clues, but the Hangul captions at the bottom of the screen were the giveaway that it was a local copy. I know my Air Force commander knew about it (he would ask if I knew which movie was going to be shown that week), but I don't know if the Army commander knew or cared.

The only time there was an official complaint about the channel broadcasting bootleg movies was when the movie rental store on base caught them broadcasting rentals. After that the owner of any DVD movie was annouced prior to the showing to prove that they had the right to broadcast it.

I feel bad for bringing my own snacks to the theater, but I don't want to pay $5 for a stale box of candy. And its always stale. I don't know how movie theaters sell so much candy and still manage to have product go stale. Also, I make my own peanut brittle and bring that. :\

Couldn't you write an anonymous letter, stating that you fear retaliation from your managers?

edit: well, i guess they'd kind of know it was you complaining about that incident.. wouldn't they? Maybe a "concerned customer" letter, but you could only write what a customer would see, not the managers brushing it off unless they did it in the open.

The two that I worked in never had candy go stale. If it ever got old enough to potentially be an issue, we'd just ship it back to the supplier. Sounds like the theatres you go to just don't know how to order.

I only sneak in a soda. I like popcorn with my films, and don't have a purse large enough for a bag of the stuff.

well i'm sure some of the sailors were bitching when they realized they weren't going to be getting some of the new movies.

cos we got the 8mms in at least a month or two before the DVDs came out
