Last night, Best Buy
I'm in line, returning 2 external HDDs, they had 2 different models on sale for boxing day and I bought the wrong one and realized right after I paid at which point I got the other one, and they weren't doing returns on the 26th or 27th.
2 people ahead of me are 2 people returning $ 200 headphones, claiming the box is empty. Their receipt is from a store over an hour away and their phone number is out-of-province (I heard them say it and identified it). Turns out the other store is the only one with it in stock.
They are given a $200 cash refund no questions asked and a $25 gift card "for the trouble" after they asked for a $15 one and a manager was called to authorize it. (Sooo obviosly a scam) My items are brand new and never even opened, they have to call a manager to open it and make sure everything is there, and a technician to make sure its unused, then I was asked for photo ID for the return, they photocopied the boxes, the serial number labels on the items. I don't think they copied my ID, but it had gotten to the point that I was fed up and didn't say anything because I didn't want to be a SC.
Seriously, you know you have a problem when the scammers are given their money - and them some - with no questions being asked but those who are honest and make life easier (gave receipt, returns form and credit card at once and said that they're both unopened before I was asked for anything) are given trouble and treated with suspicion.
