How not to promote your business

A couple of weeks ago, I got a craving for a pizza. There is a local pizza parlor in town that I simply don't like. I usually get delivery from a chain place 15 minutes from here.

While waiting for the delivery my boyfriend went outside to hang out with my roommate and his friend. His friend happens to work for the local place. When he learned that we were ordering from "the competition", he got annoyed.

Cue the long lecture about supporting local businesses followed by how great the pizzas were at local place. He ranted about it for a few minutes until roommate asked him to cut it out.

After a few moments, he asked my boyfriend what he ordered. Upon hearing that my boyfriend had ordered an oven baked sandwich, he went off again. This time extolling the awesomeness of local place's sandwiches and how awful it was that we were not ordering from them. Finally he let go of the subject or so we thought.

Last week he dropped off some menus from local place, so that we would "know about all the great food they had". I already can't stand local place and harassing me at my home is not going to motivate me to like it.

Wow...that's a dedicated worker. I had no issue eating at McDonalds when I worked at Burger King. I must've been a terrible employee.

I've wished for ages that I had had a camera with me the day I was at a Burger King drive-thru (this was pre-cell phone cameras). I was right behind a Pizza Hut delivery car

Coulda made some money one of two ways - selling the photo to BK as an ad, or using it as minor blackmail for Pizza Hut

Some local places can be very awesome.

But at least around here, the local places are absurdly overpriced. $20 for a medium pizza? No thanks.

It would have been kind of funny to tell him flat out, "Well honestly we don't order from <local place> because we straight up don't like it" and see the friend's reaction. Would he have tried to convince you that you actually do like it? Or maybe that your taste buds are wrong

Some local places are good, some suck. I guess it depends. But hey, each to their own. There's one place by me that used to do pizza, but then later made it to strictly Italian food (the place is still jammin though, but I guess it makes more money this way now). They had the best Margherita pizza EVAR and dammit I miss it!

In anycase, I perfer local over corporpations. They tend to have better food.

But I cannot resist Taco Bell nor Subway. So Sad.

I always had "the dirt" on other grocery stores in the area so I could tell people why not to shop there.

For the record, one of them is actually owned by organized crime (as opposed to corporate crime, which is just as bad but at least it's more subtle), and the other one had a worse selection because of a) higher prices caused by b) better health care for their employees (we're both in the same union).

I especially love it when SCs yell at me that they're taking their business elsewhere. Have fun! Being SCs, you're not privileged enough for me to tell you why I don't mind you going there... you and they deserve each other.
