  • Jackass at the doctor's office

The things my mom and stepdad are missing since they retired.

My mom and stepdad used to work as a nurse and a doctor at a medical center near where they live, up until they retired a few years ago. In fact, that's how they met. My stepdad still has his medical license on a limited basis, and is allowed to treat family members, so he's still our doctor.

My son is turning 16 on Friday, and I'm taking him to take the test for his learner's permit. I'm not sure how it works in other states, but in PA you have to get a physical and have a doctor fill out a form. For some reason, my stepdad wasn't able to do it, so we had to go to the medical center to get it done.

We checked in, and a few minutes later, they called my son back. I waited for him in the waiting room. While I was waiting, some guy who smelled like a walking ashtray times 100 came in, trying to get seen right away. He just seemed to have an attitude from the get-go. First, he was standing close enough to the woman who was there before him that they assumed they were together, and he rudely answered, "I ain't with her!" Then he acted all pissy because he had to wait while they checked to see if they could squeeze him in. I think I overheard him say he slipped on the ice and thought he had cracked a rib.

A few minutes later, the receptionist came back and apologized that they had no openings today, and asked if he could come back tomorrow. Without answering, he slammed the window shut, told the person he came with, "Let's get out of here!" and stormed off. The receptionist slid the window back open, and he said to her, "You just refused service! Fuck you!" and kept going.

The receptionist didn't seem the least bit phased, and just called the next person to the window. In fact, if anything, she looked like the was trying not to laugh.

Good for her! That's the proper way to deal with idiocy like that.

Kind of sounds like the kind of reaction a drug seeker would have.

If it was that serious an injury, why didn't he go to the ER?

        Yep, Jackass to the max.

Too bad her reply wasn't, "Yeah, and?"

The more I thought about it, the more I thought the same thing. He claimed to be in pain, and if he truly was, I can understand being a bit irritable. But as someone else pointed out, if it was really bad he could have gone to the E.R.

We're going to my mom's next weekend for my son's birthday. I'll have to ask her and my stepdad what their thoughts are.
