I was waiting behind this genius at the local supermarket. They were making some purchases. All was going well until they scaned a age restricted item, some medicine. The system, stops and says something like "this item requires a attendant, please wait for a attendant"

Do they...

a- wait for the attendant
b-look for a employee to help them
c-try to scan it again, hoping it will work
d-try to scan it again, have it not work and call the self scan retarded and storm off looking for a employee, yell at the nearest employee and storm out

Soooo glad we don't have SCOs! But I still get resistance when I ask for ID. All I have to do is scan the back of it.

This happens way too much, whether it's because they have an age-restricted item, a coupon that won't go through, or they **** the machine up by not putting things on the belt or throwing them like Roger Clemens.

Ahhh but remember, if you do that, the goverment tracks what beer that person is buying. It must be true. Every customer freaks out on that. Because of the millions of people, they all have their very own special barcode on their IDs. If you scan it, the goverment knows that they are buying import beer, and thus are now on their Terrorist list, because they don't buy beer from AMERICA!


Jebus. Why do people freak out on that? It just a barcode that gives the day, month and year you were born. That is it.

You have a barcode?!? Oh I wish MalMart had one. Sure would make validating purchases easier, though it wouldn't stop the endless complaining about how they've never needed carded before. Um, you must not be buying alcohol anywhere then, because businesses around here card almost everyone.

What happens at my store is:

E) Since while the item was scanned, it locked up the order until approval, they just go to the self-checkout next to that and start the order all over from the beginning. Meanwhile, the attendant has to go to the first unit, clear all items and scan the store card to end the order. By which time the SC (sucky customer, not self-checkout) has gotten all impatient again and decided to try his luck on a third unit.

It gets sillier. Sometimes they even walk out of the store after the second one, and we are too busy being understaffed to even call the cops. Or else they go to the register of someone under 21 who then has to call for approval from the same beleaguered SC (self-checkout, not sucky customer) attendant. Glares all around, everybody!
