  • Drunk old ladies make me smile.

So aside from my grocery store job I work at a dinner theatre as the light board operator. I don't interact with the customers much but I do lay witness to their, often alcohol induced, insanity. Currently we are doing Ain't Misbehavin'. A wonderfully raunchy and bawdy musical review. It's brought out some of our more hilarious customers. Tonight was no exception.

First, during our pre-speech (where we run through the birthdays and groups in the audience as well as run down the rules) our wonderful MC was running down the birthdays and got to this lovely woman celebrating her 60th birthday. She really looked great for her age. As such the MC asked her how she stayed so young looking. Without hesitating the woman responds "sex." When asked to repeat what she said she said the same thing so it wasn't that we were hearing things. A friend with her then added "she's not ain't misbehavin'." MC laughed and ended the birthday portion with "well I guess the misbehaving has already begun."

Later, right after one of the big audience participation numbers one of my favorite light cues happens. The stage goes from bright and golden to this deep moody purple. Well one audience member didn't see this as the sign of a deep ballad about the plight of being black in the 1920's (when the show is set) and thought it was time for more bawdy fun and announced "alright, where's the stripper pole." I had to bite my tongue from laughing.

All in all a great crowd but damn were these ladies, as most of the peanut gallery comments were from women, crazy. I loved them. I hope when I am their age I'll still have my mind firmly planted in the gutter as they so obviously did. I have role models for my retirement years now.
