Background/: Hubby and I went to see the Edinburgh Military Tattoo that was in Sydney over the weekend. (side note: excellent show. Highly recommend it if it ever comes your way)
After the show we hung around a bit to wait for most of the people to leave the car parks. Now the car park had signs posted everywhere advising that they were charging and “event flat rate” of $20 to park. $20 is also the maximum rate if your stay is over 6 hours. The only way to avoid the flat rate, if you were under 6 hours, was to have your ticket validated at one of the food/retail outlets with a purchase of $10 or more
Enter Mature aged SC – I am in the queue next to her as this takes place
She hands her ticket to the cashier and loudly states “It’s validated”. The cahier runs the ticket thru the machine and advises her the charge is $20. SC says “no, it’s validated. It’s free”. Cashier explains that she has been their for over 7 hours therefore the max (or flat) rate applies, pointing to a large sign next to customers head stating rates. Customer argues that the sign says if its validated, its free. cashier point to sign showing validation only means the standard rates apply, not free parking. This goes back and forth a bit with the customer claiming the company is ripping people off, they don’t follow their own rules and that she will complain to management. Blah, blah, blah….
I was sorely tempted to step in and say something to this customer, but felt that she would most likely not listen to me (so caught up in her own suckiness as she was) so I didn’t. she eventually paid her $20, mumbled under her breathe and wandered off to her car. The customer behind her said something to the cashier about her having had a bit too much to drink. (scary thought if she was getting behind the wheel)
But seriously, the signs were perfectly clear. A semi-educated ape could have understood them. And I think $20 for 7 ½ hours parking is quite good. Hubby and I were actually under the 6 hours but never bothered to get our ticket validated. I was more than happy to pay the flat rate.
