  • More RA suckage *really long

Another post reminded of a couple or stories about a really bad RA I had my 2nd year.
    The Quieting

We were on an all girls 24hr quiet floor. I had specifficaly requested to be on the 24hr quiet floor because I did not want to deal with any excessive noise. Unfortunaly about 1/3 of the floor did not request to be on this floor and thought that because of this they did not have to obey the rules and my RA thought that this was fine. This lead to problems with my roommate (E) and the girl who lived right next to us (T).
E is sevearly dislexic so she has to have a text to speach program read to her. This did not bother me because ether her or I had headphones on. Now C loved aim how do I know this? She set the volume of her computer up so loud that we could hear the ping every time she got a new message. E went over a few times and asked her nicely to turn it down after a couple of days it was not so nice, after a week she went to the RA. After the RA talked with C we no longer heard the little chime for a new message we instead heard a mooo. E asked if I would talk to the RA about it because she told me that if she had to talk to her agin she would "smash her face in with a cow" and some how I believed she would do that.

Me: Hey could you ask C to turn down her aim
RA: Yea I told her to and she has
Me: You cant hear the mooing. She just changed the sound
RA: OOH thats what that is

Needless to say it never gotten taken care of and it was a constent struggle throught the year.

    Free couch

On every floor there is a little lounge with a loveseat, couch, table and whatnot. During the middle of the semester some of the guys from the lower floors came up and stole our couch in the middle of the night. I asked the RA about it just in passing.

Me: So any leads as to who took our couch?
RA: No noone has confessed yet.
Me: Isnt there a security camera at the end of the hallway?
    RA: Yea
Me: Couldnt you look at it and see who did it?
RA: Yea they had to have walked right by it but I would rather they just confess.
    Me:

No one ever confessed it still remains unsolved to this day.

    Week of the deadly frost.

In the dead of winter one night the vents just start blowing freezing air. I was use to the cold because our rooms window sealing was cracked and let a small amount of air in but when I walked out in the hallway in the morining I was like walking outside in 10 degree weather with out a coat. Almost every one talked to the RA about it who did nothing or just reported that it was chilly to the housing people. She didnt think that it was a big deal that we had to wear coats to bed and in the hallways. This went on for about 2 weeks some of the girls went and put thermometers in the hallways and I asked if anyone had a video recorder and asked them to vidoe tape me walking through the hallways showing the thermometers and the fact that you could see every ones breath. We took it down to the housing people and told them that if they dont get it fixed we would send this to the local news. It got fixed that day.

i would suggest... if the RA is doing nothing to fix any of the issues, talk to someone above them in the school.

might piss the RA off but hell, they usually get a free room for doing the RA job.

that and it might be something to suggest to the college that they ONLY put students in those rooms who want to be there. less of a fight.

i was in a dorm like that once. it was nice... had to request to be in that wing. never much noise.

Ours was supposed to be a quiet floor. Every now and then the girls next door would get noisy and my roommate would pound on the wall (where her bed was) and the girls would pound back. Shortly thereafter, a mysterious someone would leave a melting ice cream cone on the hallway carpet in front of our door 3-4 times a week. This went on for a few weeks until the RA finally approached numerous rooms and told students she didn't care who was responsible, so long as they knocked it off. Otherwise the responsible parties would be caught and would pay to replace the carpet. It stopped immediately.

Interestingly enough, we discovered another room assumed the cone was meant for them. Apparently the same loud jerks didn't get along with a few people on the floor.

I will confess to having been the loud room once during 23-hour quiet time (exam season). It was after our last exams, and the on-duty don had to come 2/3 times to tell us to keep it down. However, I like to think that we made up for it slightly by realising that we were making more noise than we thought we were, and breaking the game up after she came the third time (might only have been second). I suspect it was the room above/below us, as a lot of noise carried through the air vents, but we were clearly in the wrong, so it's not like I'd be trying to get revenge on them (even if I wasn't required to leave the next day, as my exams were done).
