Sometimes I have bad days and have to use a cane. Or if I know I'm going to have to do a lot of standing I take my cane and use it as kind of a kick stand to prop myself up. I went to the St Patty's Day block party tonight and you wouldn't believe how many people not paying attention kicked it out from under me. Those that looked down and saw what they did and apologized I forgave, those that kept going got their ankles whacked with my cane. One jerk had the nerve to say something to me. My response was LOUDLY along the lines of "What you get your jollies kicking canes out from under people?!" They got lots of glares from surrounding people and didn't press the matter.

Sorry you had to deal with that.
We have some regulars coming in our store often who need a cane, wheelchair, or a walker. It's disgusting seeing people leaving carts in the way of the ramp or doorways on purpose, take up the whole aisle or just flatout make faces behind them. Once when I was coming in to work, I overheard a customer shoot a smartass response at a wheelchair user because the customer left the cart on the marked ramp.
I hate the lack of respect or courtesy. In the slot machine of life, I am the WILD symbol.

Some people are assholes, plain and simple and get their kicks off picking on people that they perceive weaker than them. I remember watching my mom go into Wal Mart (she uses a walker) behind me and nobody would stop for her. Never mind that they A) they were supposed to and B) it was raining.

I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.
