  • How many times can I say it?

This one was witnessed by my mum and takes place at a printer shop.

Background: we own a Canon printer. This particular one allows for cartridges to be refilled when needed.

    Ok, there's enough background.

So today, my mum had to go and get the ink cartridges on the printer refilled. Rather than buying a kit at home and doing it, she gets them done professionally and pays for it-saves her time and hassle, as well as preventing any nasty issues...(we have two very active cats)

When she was in the store, the man in front of her was also attempting to get his ink cartridge refilled. According to mum, this guy had an Epson cartridge. These particular ones had a microchip in them meaning that once it's empty, the chip recognizes the cartridge as being empty and thus it cannot be refilled.

The suck part in this one was that the guy kept asking the same question in about twenty different ways to try and get the man to refill his ink cartridge for him. It eventually ended in the guy leaving and my mum getting her ink cartridges refilled.

Just a note folks-according to Wiki, it says that Epson cartridges CAN be reset using a third-party device, however I'm not 100% sure if a) they're legal, b) if they're even used in Australia or c) the cost of them or of a third-party ink kit so that the guy could do it himself.

One of our printers is an Epson like that. I had the cartridges refilled and they told me that they would do it, but couldn't guarantee that it would work because of the chip. So it's a YMMV kind of thing. They also told me how I could disable the chip reader from my computer. It's handy to be told when you're almost out of ink, but certainly workable without it.

I'm thinking that the guy's had too many people complain about the Epson's not worknig after refilling them, so he's stopped.

Even if the cartridges can be reset, and it's legal to do so, and the devices exist in Australia, and the cost is reasonable, none of that would guarantee that this particular store would have one.
Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.

I was just thinking that we can fill some Epson cartridges, but not all, and most cartridges have the chip, and they need to be reset. I have no idea why we can't refill the Epson N73 (I think thats the one), but we sell the "cheap" brand instead.

No, I don't understand why you would waste time asking the same question 20 different ways in the hopes of getting a different answer though.

In Utah, it's legal, but Utah's like, half the world away from you. We had our Epson cartridges filled and reset all the time while at school, and they worked just fine (though with the "may not work" disclaimer from the ink kiosk).

That said, No means No and asking your question a different way won't change that. Just accept the answer, sir, and go look somewhere else for a place that'll do it.
