Having discharged my Mother's Day responsibilities early, I went to the pub with a friend, for a couple of pints and some NTN trivia. I was so focused on the trivia that I didn't pick up on the little drama unfolding in the booth behind us until it was well underway and I heard our very nice waitress say sharply "Go and don't come back." I looked behind me but couldn't see quite what was going on, just a young-ish guy and his gf standing there with stupid smirks on their faces. Then I heard the distinctive sound of pints being overturned - you know, *tap* followed by *glup*.
Guy goes out the door, followed by enraged waitress, while other bar staff rush to mop up the mess before it soaks the whole booth. I guess buddy figured that turning them over quietly might not be as obvious as dumping it or throwing it, so the mess would be discovered later after achieving maximum effect.
I asked the waitress afterwards - she said the guy was drunk and they had cut him off, and he was pissed in every sense of the word. The bad part was that he had come in with the gf posing as his caregiver - ordering for him and so on and implying that he had some sort of disability. I guess that was their cunning plan to ensure that they were served. I felt bad for the waitress because she would have been in trouble for refusing the guy if she assumed he was drunk and it turned out he had CP or something; and she would be in trouble for overserving a guy who was already drunk.
I guess it takes a real man to be thrown out of a bar at five o'clock in the afternoon. On Mother's Day.
