    I would go to corporate and report the manager. He is an idiot who doesn't deserve any business, let someone who knows what they are doing come in.

        It sux! Whats bad now is that I've cut out caffine so when I go to get something nice and warm to drink I normally go for a Chai Latte. Thing is, depending on where you go they use instant powder...which often has skim/milk powder in it. This means when I find out a place uses that...I can't go there even if it's yummy!

        Just to point something out (since I, too, for the most part eschew caffeine), Chai is traditionally a mix of black tea and spices. Black tea has caffeine. Granted, not as much as coffee, but it's right up there. You have to specifically ask for a red chai for it to be caffeine free, if they have it. (well, red or rooibos, which is the same thing.) Caffeine causes problems with me, not as severe, now, but I still try to watch my intake and severely limit it. I just wanted to give fair warning, since you said you've cut out caffeine. If it's detrimental to your health, I'd hate for the chai to cause problems for you.

            Actually, weight for weight, tea has more caffeine than coffee does. AFAIK the reason that brewed tea has less caffeine than brewed coffee is because of differences in the brewing process. (Same for why black tea has less caffeine than green - if you make your green tea with boiling water you're getting more caffeine than you think you are). Given that the Indian way to make tea is to boil the tea, rather than pouring boiled water over the leaves, I wouldn't be surprised if chai has significantly more caffeine than tea normally does. Now, I'm assuming that any masala chai is going to be half milk (or milk substitute), but that's still going to be a heck of a lot of caffeine.

              I just know that black & green tea = caffeine. White tea = some caffeine. Herbal and rooibos = caffeine free and Lupo safe. And yes, most chai, masala chai that is, is about half chai half milk. (and OH so good...). I have a rooibos vanilla chai that I brew myself, and it is AWESOME. Caffeine free and tastiness.

              On the topic of food allergies and whatnot, if trying to avoid caffeine for any medical reason, also keep an eye out for body lotions or soaps, some will use green tea extract. Also, excedrin uses caffeine as an accelerant in its painkillers.

                I find it funny, in a very horrifying way, that caffeine, which is such a bad thing to have if you want to avoid menstrual cramps, is a major ingredient in so many things that people take for cramps... (Of course, the ones that work don't generally have caffeine, but that's a different matter). Actually... it causes other pain too. Hmmm.... it's a conspiracy!

                  I....hate to add to your pain, but if you order a chai latte, most places are going to give you chai mixed with steamed milk. That's what latte means. If you need to avoid dairy, you should order just chai tea.

                    for menstrual crams - 2 advil and 1 benadryl - works like a charm!

                    I also cut out caffeine from my diet, just b/c mostly - but i LOVE a blended soy chai! i actually had one of the baristas ask me if it was a dairy thing, b/c their chai powder has powdered milk in it, and i just like the way the sweetness of the soy milk compliments the flavor of the chai, but i appreciated his telling me... in case it was a dairy thing... - one time i had my brother order, and didn't specify 'soy' to him, and he got it w/ a coffee base, and i couldn't finish it my heart started beating fast, and i felt jittery, so i made him finish it.

                        See, I've never had ibuprofen work on mine. The only thing that did any good is naproxen. (Which I hear you can get OTC in the states *jealous*). Ibuprofen only works on mild cramps - the kind you can walk through - for me.

                          Ibuprofen works for me, but it must be in MASSIVE doses. My doc says it's because it acts as a dilator, and that helps ease the cramps (and i get some BAAAD ones) When I say massive dose, I'm not kidding. We're talking a prescription for 800 mg pills, and multiple of those throughout the day. Takes the edge off enough for me to function. Naproxen does nothing for my cramps, but does wonders on headaches. And yes, we get it OTC here, in the form of Aleve as the name brand. 200mg pill doses, actually.

                            Pretty much correct. Black tea has the most caffeine followed by green and white. Rooibos or Red tea is caffeine free as it's not really true tea since it comes from the Rooibos plant and not the Camellia Sinensis. The same goes for herbal teas in that they are not true tea, but a mixture of ingredients which is why they are caffeine free.

                            There is an interesting thing I learned recently about caffeine as well. If something is caffeine free, then it has no caffeine in it. If it's decaf, it still has around 10% of the caffeine in it and just goes through one of a couple different processes to remove most of the caffeine. This goes for tea, coffee, etc.

                            I did however learn a nifty way to decaf something yourself. If you steep your own tea, let it steep for 30 seconds, then remove the tea and dump out the liquid. Most of the caffeine will be removed with the liquid in those 30 seconds. Then fill the cup back up and continue steeping. I don't think it's as effective as the commercial ways of decaffeinating, but it gets rid of a lot of it.

                              I find it strange also that a few migraine medications have caffeine, caffeine is a pretty common migraine trigger. I know it's why I had to eliminate it from my diet.

                                it made me think of the sucky manager. i hope his boss read him the riot act for being that rude to you.

                                cos people like that manager are the ones who shouldn't be allowed outside, not if they can't keep their mouths shut.

                                very good point. I personally use it for my headaches - excedrine or coffee itself
                                but it also depends on how sensitive you are to it.

                                and keep in mind, migraines can also be a side effect of pre-menopause, and how bad they are can be hereditary
