Long post
"Dr. Jones" is the head of the drama dept. at the university I work at as a contract parking attendant. I heard he has a reputation for going to campus police or to the President's office if needed when his guest(s) do not get free parking.
A couple of weeks ago the phone inside the booth rings. I look up, & there is a black car at the exit gate. Here is what happened.
me: "Visitor parking booth. How may I help you?"
male customer:"Hi, Dr. Jones told me I could press the call box & you would raise the gate for me."
me: "I'm sorry, but I am not allowed to raise the gate. You have to speak to the parking office about that. One moment please."
I transfer the call to the parking office. "Anne", who is covering for "Missy", while she is out on leave answered the phone. I tell her "the customer at the exit gate to Visitor parking wants to speak to the Parking office." I hang up the phone. I watch the exit gate to see what happens. After a couple of minutes that gate goes up, & the guy exits. Then a couple of minutes later "Nancy" calls me & asks if there is a car at the exit gate. I tell her there was, but the exit gate went up, & the driver exited. She said "Oh...oh well.", & she hangs up.
Then several days later the same guy presses the exit gate, but this time he asks to be connected to campus police. So I do that, & I watch the exit gate to see what happens. The exit gate goes up.
Then several days later, he does the same thing again, but this time campus police transfer the call to the Parking office. The exit gate goes up. The guy exits, & the driver behind him, the university president who has his own parking spot inside Visitor parking, exits as well. "Nancy" from the parking office calls me to let me know why the gate was raised & to let me know to tranfer the call to them the next time he presses the call box.
So on Thursday he does the same thing again. I transfer the call to the Parking office. "Anne" answers the phone. I tell her why I am calling. She puts me on hold, & "Nancy" answers the phone. I tell her why I am calling. She tells me she will speak to him. I watch the exit gate to see what happens. It does not go up. Instead he backs up. "Nancy" calls me a couple of minutes later & asks me if he backed up. I said yes. She then asked me to get his license plate number when he exits. I do that, & I e-mail her the information. She calls me & tells me he is a student & to transfer all calls regarding him to the Parking office, & they will handle the situation.
When I got to dispatch Friday morning to get the keys for the Visitor parking booth, "Nancy" was there talking to one of the campus cops. She told him that 1) "Dr. Jone's" guest is a student who is taking one of his classes & 2) "Dr. Jones" came down to the Parking office Thursday after the student told him he needed a token to exit Visitor parking & told her "I will take care of this situation." "Nancy" told the campus cop she said "I know you will." The campus cop laughed.
