  • Ahhh. . . Crazy neighbours

This is actually coming from a colleague of mine. We're in Aus, and she lives in a nice little culdesac street.
Her nextdoor neighbour is nuts. Since its a culdesac her lawn curves with the gutter. CN thinks this is his grass, despite multiple times being told otherwise (including by the real estate they rent from). B is good and continues to mow, in accordance with her real estate contract. Everytime she does it ends in CN screaming at her.
But thats not the sighting. B is happy because finally CN is yelling at someone else.
The place in question? Australia Post.
It's been raining lately, a lot. The mailman was being wonderful and taking the mail up to the houses instead of putting it in a sopping wet mail box. Cue CN screaming at him in what I like to think of as "Get off my lawn!". It went on for a little while, basically him shouting trespass and whatnot.
Australia Post responded by sending out a representative and a lawyer the next day. Again with the yelling, AP simply said, you don't like it you can find another carrier. And variations as such. basically shut up or we stop your service.
This did not make CN happy. B caught the end of the argument which ended with.
'Sir, we will stop delivering your mail if you continue to abuse us.'
    'That's unconstitutional!'
    'Sir, we aren't in America.'
They walked off. So far he has been getting his mail - but it may be his last chance.

PS. Sorry Americans, but it is a common thing around here to use ya'll as an example. Especially with the "I'll sue" mentality. Very rarely any civil suits get anywhere here unless they are huge

Well, you guys have a Constitution of your own, right? He probably thinks it gives him the right to pick fights with everybody. He sounds nuts.

Yeah we do have one, but nothing like yours. Many people here think that because its a constitution, then its the same as the one they hear about on tv.

I really need to find my copy of it. I know you can't hide behind the right of free speech as there restrictions for legal purposes.

*sighs softly* I've stopped mail delivery before because people had a...unsafe mailbox. Good times.

We have a guy here in the county who was in the news. His mail delivery was stopped, so he went down to the post office and made threats, and now he's banned from there as well. Not sure how he gets his mail now...

Kind of reminds me of a former newspaper customer on Hubby's route. Everyone on this block wanted their newspapers porched except one, so Hubby decided since he was out of his car anyways he'd be nice and porch theirs, too. Cue them calling the newspaper and screaming that it had to be at the end of their driveway by the street or else they'd cancel their subscription!!!

Dude, half the people over here screaming about their "constitutional rights" have no clue what that even entails.

I'm sure our Fearless Leader Raps can tell you how many people come over here on this very board and try to hide behind "freedom of speech", having no idea what that means.

              It's funny, really.

We do to an extent. Certain things are covered by the Constitution, however it's not identical to the one within the US. Ours was also a lot more recent if you will, being signed in 1901 after Federation was formed (IIRC)

Check university libraries. Chances are, they'll have a copy.

Some things aren't covered by freedom of speech, while some things are. Last time I checked, satire is one of the things that is protected under law, to prevent censorship occurring.

Someone at the post office (a customer) was once bragging how he put a rat trap in the mailbox to catch/deter would-be mail thieves. When I expressed my horror at the thought of anyone, especially a poor mail carrier, getting their fingers snapped by a rat trap, he just laughed me off saying he knew when the mailman comes each day and not to worry. I pity the poor mail carrier that works an unfamiliar route at an unusual time one day.

Being that snakes, wasps, hornets, and turtles () have been found in people's mailboxes down here, I make a point to look before shoving my hand in there.

That right there is good council for anyone sticking their hand into any sort of dark tube you can't readily see into.

So I would hope the guys' booby trap would fail.

But then, that doesn't take into account the mentality of the sort of folks we write about here.

Ha! I'll have to use this as an example on my local paper's blog.

I swear, this guy sounds like one of my local nutcases.

Canada Post had to stop delivering to a certain neighbourhood because of a hawk attacking the workers. You should have seen all the comments on the CBC website calling them wussies for it.

You know, this reminds me of the episode of The Simpsons where Homer yelled at the trash men and the city's trash pickup stopped getting their trash... I guess this crazy guy doesn't want that ever-important power bill, though, eh?
