I'm also one of those who likes different varieties of honey as a treat, especially at the farmer's market where they have someone who has great tasting honey for sale. Even then, I won't be doing shots of syrup at my table at IHOP.
Syrup, like honey, should not be consumed on its own.
but but but *slurps down stick of killer bee honey* Honey is the tastiest candy snack ever! But no I wouldn't do straight shots of syrup, maple candy yes, syrup no.
When I was moving states, a friend took my brother and I to an IHOP for dinner the night before we left, we had a syrup drinking contest with the syrup bottles they leave on the table, I won by drinking the entire bottle of the butter pecan, my brother drank like a quarter of the strawberry. I then proceeded to sample the rest of the syrups. we all had a laugh. When they brought us our food they exchanged our syrup bottles for us... even the waiter laughed
My aunt brought home some organic buckwheat honey today that is absolutely stunning. I have thus far resisted the urge to do more than taste it, but I could eat a spoonful of that stuff.

If it was the cheap stuff that's pretty much pure sugar, that's just nasty. Hell, even if it was real maple syrup...that's still pretty gross. Syrup, like honey, should not be consumed on its own.
This is a semi-old story I heard from a waitress when I went out to breakfast.
My family and my boyfriend and I were at the IHOP one day for breakfast, and the waitress comes by with those little glass things of syrup for the pancakes. She leans down a bit and goes, "Just so we're clear, you know these aren't shots, right?"
We kinda do a double-take and go, "Yeah, why?"
She goes on to explain. "One time I had a table with some teenage kids, and when I brought the syrup to them and walked away, they tapped me on the shoulder and said 'Hey, can we get some more of those shots you brought us?' I had to tell them that it was syrup!"
That's an interesting disclaimer. I will definitely not be shooting syrup, thankyouverymuch.
