I don't agree with the comment "What if they didn't use their brains and bashed in this young ladies door by mistake?". Why? Because it sounds like they were trying to break into your place and at least two others. Which means they were already making that mistake, they just didn't bust down any doors. Thank goodness it isn't summer when you might have your windows open! Sounds like they would've welcomed themselves right on in.

My family used to live in a bad neighborhood and someone tried to break into our house once. I quickly got used to patrolling the house armed while my mother was working overtime. Not a good way to live.
