  • Being Fat = Not having to card the customer

at least at one of the 7-11s in my town.

Was talking to a friend online.

She's is wonderful. She's also at least 6 feet tall and between 300-400 pounds.

Guy at the 7-11 told her he didn't have to card her because she's fat.

    WTF does that even mean?

    First, that's just rude.

Second, maybe he believes that, much like a pearl being formed, it takes a certain number of years to grow to that size? Not many 13 year-olds with those measurements.

Third, it was still rude to have made that comment. If she wants to do something about it, have her contact the store manager and report him for not carding.

Nope, gotta call BS on the age thing. I'm sure there are 10 year olds that weigh more than me. So that must mean they can be sold ciggs and beer.

I do not see the connection between weight and age. Maybe I should pass the memo on to the local casino's employees who always card me when I try to go into the game area - my 210-pound ass should be fat enough to be legal by this prick's standards.

it means your friend should report his behavior to his manager.

that was unacceptable and possibly a violation of the law requiring carding for alcohol.

not so much that the brain to mouth filter was functioning badly/broken, just that it didn't exist, period.

              Interesting..............

I am a very petite woman(5'2"100lbs) and have been told outright that I have been carded due to my size.
Though if you look at my face, it is more than obvious that I am over 30.

Neither do I, but the way some people's brains are wired, you can just hear the fuses blowing and the wires burning just by standing close to them.

I am 6'0" 250+ pounds and STILL get carded (ok I don't smoke or drink, but sometimes I will get one for my mother or father if I am out..one smokes..one drinks lol) so I am a little here. (I am turning 37 very soon..Jan 18 to be exact).

                    210 is fat? If you're 4'6" maybe... I'm 5'10", over 210 and I barely have a gut.

You still have above a healthy BMI though.

Of course, one of the shortcomings of the BMI is it doesn't account for the fact muscle weighs more than fat.

I've always thought BMI is bunk anyway, for primarily that reason but also because it's not based on any clear medical correlation. (There's tons of studies that say fat is bad but none that establish how fat is too fat.)

My friend is very laid back. She was more: "This was funny" than: "OMG! What a prick!"

                          She thought it was funny.

On a side note, last night, her friend C, went on a ciggie run, and when he came back, he was so happy that he was carded! First time he'd ever bought ciggies, and he loved being carded.

                          Yeah, I know weird peoples.

It's a matter of risk factors. The more overweight you are, longer, increases your risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, joint problems, sleep apnea, etc.

You can get away with it for decades. Then it catches up to you.

How fat is too fat? It just depends on how much one can stand, what it takes to get one to make changes, if one is ever willing to make changes, and if the changes are made in time.

Weight and diabetes are correlated, not causational.

Even the sites that claim that obesity directly causes diabetes fall back on a host of correlated information. You can be obese and not be diabetic. Although that's rare, as most of the factors that lead to obesity are the same ones that lead to development of type 2 diabetes.

Oddly enough, the only thing guaranteed to keep you from reaching 80 is high blood sugar. Everything else can be survived.
