  • minor rants on the honeymoon

Overall our honeymoon was a blast in Vegas, but of course as with all things in life it was not perfect and I want to vent on some of them.

    Gambling on the strip sucks
I'm not quite sure how else to put it, it just does. All the tables have really high minimums, the dealers seamed up tight, and the players didn't seem to be having that much fun. The only place that was fun to play the tables at was the Circus Circus (slots were a blast at Luxor though). I've learned my lesson, if I am going to gable, go to Reno (that is solid advice for y'alls too... unless you have a 6 figure bank account and can afford the luxury gaming, don't bother with the Las Vegas Strip.

    know your audience
We went to Thunder From Down Under and it was ladies night or something at the casino so they were giving all the ladies wristbands for unlimited drinks, that's all good and well, no complaints. Here's the seriously, do you know know your audience moment, to make it more fair, for any men in the audience (all two of us) they gave us coupons from free entry to the CatHouse club, where the servers are women in french lingerie... umm, what makes you think that I, as an audience member of Thunder From Down Under, would have any use for a coupon for a place with scantily clad women?

    so good until...
we were having lunch at McCarren while waiting for our flight (that airport is nowhere near as bad as people says it is), we had a server who was really doing good, only complaint was my drink wasn't mixed properly, but that is the bartender's fault, not the server. Then, after we finish eating, he asks if we want anything else, we say no, we figure that he's going to get our check. Nope, he goes and socializes with other servers for at least five minutes (I started checking my watch). Seriously, you were doing so well, and when it came to the EASIEST part of the job, you drop the ball.

I just got back from Vegas yesterday as well.

I hope you had fun over all, and i do agree with the strip and it's gambling crapiness. LOL

As yes, i would agree...that airport was actually a cake walk compaired to some other ones i've been to. We used southwest, so we had already printed our boarding passes. We got to the airport around 7am because the flight left at 9. We figured it would be crouded, but it was so easy. Everyone was so organized it took us a whole 15 mins to go through a small line to check in hubs' bag and get through security AND find the gate.

Not at ALL what we expected.
I can only please one person a day, today isn't your day, and tomorrow doesn't look good either.

When someone asks you a stupid question, give them a stupid answer.

I take it Thunder From Down under is a male strip show?

      The logic is 2 fold
a woman goes with her male partner to the male strip show, they get 1 free entry to the sexy women club, after sitting through men stripping, it's a easy sell for the man to convince the woman to go. And thus they get two customers they wouldn't otherwise get, one who pays for entry.

      AND/OR

If you are a mixed sex couple at one of those shows, you are sexually open/comfortable thus now you know about another sexy/fun place you are likely to try it out.

They probably get more successful referrels than you think.

I'm going to Reno in 3 weeks for vacation. Never been before. But I don't like to gamble. The main reason I like going to places like Vegas is because I don't sleep much, even on vacation, and it's nice to be able to go outside for a smoke at 2am and not worry about being alone outside my hotel.

I feel the same way about Newark Liberty.

Never had a problem there...mostly because I expect that even if we board on time, we'll still be waiting for a min. of 30 minutes to take off.

My guess is that they figured you'd wandered into the wrong place. Either that or gotten dragged in by the Mrs. and would be delighted to be elsewhere.

              Wrong-o.

And that is why my parents prefer Downtown/Old Vegas

My Parents were recently out in Vegas for a convention for work, and spent some time enjoying Vegas but also had a "bad" experience at the Paris hotel - mom is on a mobility scooter - many of the dealers were standing at their (tall) tables, doing nothing as the tables were empty. Mom and Dad asked the Pit Boss, hey can we get you to open a low table (handicap accessible) and were told "No, we don't have enough dealers"

really? One guy could have turned around and sat down to deal at the low table....
                so they left w/o gambling

At another casino (and i don't remember which one) it was a $5 table, but was about to go up to $15; it was not a very full table (mom and dad could have been the only ones playing) and they asked the Pit Boss about getting "grandfathered in" - they've been playing at that rate but if it goes up, so do they - from the table; Pit Boss said "Ok, but..." (i don't remember what the expiration was) (and from what I recall, that was at an On Strip casino)

When we went out for my 21st b-day, we did things on and off strip, and the gambling was much better Downtown

So next time you go to Vegas, Gamble Downtown

Thunder from Down Under is indeed a male strip show. Check out the website, anybody who's into hot guys. It lists appearances, the performers, etc. However, be advised that the heading "Featured Package" is NOT what you think it is.

Good tips to file away - me and my fiance plan to get married in Vegas in a couple years

I wonder if I could drag him to "Thunder from Down Under" *grin*

Flown into Vegas quite a few times, and never had any issues with it over all. Well save last time when we were leaving and we weren't clear which terminal we had to go. (We flew Air Canada, but it was a 3 leg trip with the 3rd leg Denver to Vegas; we went to the International Terminal at O-Dark hundred in the morning to fly back and walked to the main terminal where our flight really was).

I've only played Blackjack at Bally's, but I had a great time killing the night there. The dealers were really friendly, especially since it was my first time. But it was at 2AM Sunday morning or so, so it wasn't that busy overall, but it was fun. Especially since I had gone with a hundred $'s and expected to last 5 hands at most. Ended up doubling up by the time I left.
