Two weeks ago, I stayed at a hotel on a $100 rewards card, the bill was $103.40. The clerk needed a calculator to determine she had to charge my regular credit card a total of $3.40.

I kept my tongue, but really -- a calculator to do 103.40 - 100 = 3.40? Really? Don't they even teach "drop the 1?"

Wow. Just wow. And I thought my math wasn't the best.

Did you use a Tar-Jay card? Because with that 5% off, it is causing havoc with the service desk registers.
They either give less back (on price changes) or try to charge more (on even exchanges). It has been reported to corporate.

It seems like you got people who did NOT know about this (Tar-Jay did NOT send anything about this problem to the stores) My store only knows because we have many people who will buy a cart load of clothes and then try them on.

I will apologize to the people that had to wait for me to first figure out the problem, then figure out how to override the problem.

Nope. My regular old bank card. The issue wasn't that the system was messing up, the issue was that *she* was messing things up.

Last year I bought some earring backs at WalMart. When it turned out that they didn't fit, I returned them.

When I was going over my online bank statement, the refund went through before the original transaction did.

I can't do even "simple math" in my head (long story, head injury involved.) Numbers SCARE me, so whenever I have to do something like this, I have to take out a calculator, or do it longhand on paper. I use my fingers to count, though over the years I've gotten better and can handle most numbers that are under 20. I hope nobody would take offense if I were to whip a calculator out to do the math, rather than struggle doing it in my head. I admire those of you who can do percentage calculations in your head (like my Mom) - it amazes me.
