2 oldies but goodies about the same Hut of Pizza in my town:

I go to pick up a pizza and am standing in line. I watch a girl with no gloves on cutting pizzas. After she made each cut, she scraped the sauce off the cutter with her fingers-and licked it off. I stayed in line and proceededto explain to the person behind the register (calmly) why I would not be purchasing my pizza and walked out. Followed by several other customers.

A coworker got a pizza with an acrylic nail under the cheese. She called the manager completely grossed out-not for money,or something free but to tell him how unacceptable this was. He told her his employees never wear gloves, its too hard to make pizza that way.

    Yeah, I wouldn't either.

Any chance of making a call to your Health and Sanitation Board?

I now feel bad about writing a mini rant about people who complain when food workers don't wear gloves (or touch their food).

That said, I wasn't talking about cases like this. Basic hygiene and common sense says they you properly wash your hands and don't contaminate them (if you have to, wash them again).

also on a side note, how hard is it to make pizza WITH gloves on? If the folks at my local Subway can make delicious wraps with gloves on....

Back when I worked in a pizza joint, nobody working the pizza line wore gloves. Subs and salads, yes, but not the pizza or wings line.

Smart? Probably not. But it doesn't surprise me. Now, cleaning the sauce off the cutter with your finger and licking it? Ewwwww.....

Almost as good as when I went in to order a pizza, saw the guy sneeze on all the toppings while making one, and just keep going. I was in there for 5 minutes, he never once made a move to replace them. I am NEVER eating there again.

Agreed. In my book, this is the only acceptable reason not to wear gloves when handling food, if you're doing the utmost to keep contamination nonexistant. Licking your fingers between each cut? Losing an acrylic nail? No go.

When I worked food service, the gloves were mandatory. They had several different sizes, so even Miss Super-Long-and-Skinny-Fingers (me) still had options that fit well enough to work. I never had any problem assembling sandwiches, nor did my roommate have issues with making subs.

I personally have trouble mixing dough with gloves (I also clean my hands thoroughly, keep the nails short and never wear acrylic nails), but the rest can be done with gloves no problem. Sounds more like lazyness than difficulty... Or cheapness for not wanting to buy gloves.

                      This.

                      1) The first one is obvious since her saliva shouldn't be on her fingers or on the food. I mean touching the food is one thing, but fucking LICKING your hands and then touching the food again?

I now feel bad about writing a mini rant about people who complain when food workers don't wear gloves (or touch their food).
                      2) I'm always bringing up that most health codes don't require gloves... BUT those same health codes also specifically state that gloves MUST be worn if the worker has acrylic nails. (or cuts, abrasions, rashes, nail polish, or rings etc).

So in this case it's a double violation... not wearing gloves when legally required, AND leaving a nasty ass nail in the food.

                      Seriously, call the health board.
I mean sure you can call the location or even the chain but... nothing says "Clean up your fucking act, NOW" quite like an inspection by the board of health - especially in response to complaints. Cos they might blow off a customer... but they can't blow off a government agency that has the power to force them to close.

I'd call both. But call the health board first, and let them do their inspection before you call Corporate.

When you complained to the cashier, what was his/her reaction?
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

                          delicious and more contaminated.

Seriously glove useage leads to more bacterial contamination, not less.

putting clean gloves on without washing your hands between gloving contaminates the new gloves. Plus according to CDC guidelines you are supposed to:
Wash hands in hot water with soap for at least 20 seconds.
dry hands with a paper towel.
turn off the faucet with the paper towel you just used to dry off(prevents recontamination)
                          put on gloves.
                          WASH GLOVES
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

Gloves do not equal hygiene. They are good for covering up cuts and abrasions, otherwise they just make things worse. Def call the health board.
