  • New pool rules!!

    Background:

This apartment complex is a bit of a square and in the center of the "courtyard" is a nice pool that just opened up. My bf and I are in an apartment that faces outward to the parking lot. There are some nicer apartments as well, somewhat lining the main entrance to the area here.

A few nights ago we watched as two groups of people walked out to the parking lot, clearly coming from the pool.

Group 1 walked across the lot but when they headed to the fancier apartments it was clear that they were residents.

Group 2 - about 3-4 people - headed to the parking lot, got into a car, and drove off. WTF? Just coming over to use our pool eh?

Well management's put their foot down and we're happy. They posted signs stating that they will be issuing pool passes to the apartments and that we are allowed to have only ONE GUEST per apartment at the pool. Apartments that violate the policy will be banned from using the pool for the rest of the season.

yay! I hope they're serious about that.

It's not a big pool. And when families decide to invite all their friends over to hang out and swim in the heat, it means other rent-paying residents can get crowded out.

        I feel your pain.

Since we don't have a gated or secure entry, anyone who wants to can just waltz over and go into the pool. Which, a lot of kids from the neighborhood do, as well as hordes of guests that some tenants have over when they themselves are not home, or their squatter friends invite them over. We've had a huge squatter problem lately.

I am thinking if anything happens to anyone, we are going to lose the pool.

My apartment complex is the same way, we can only have one guest per resident. It kind of sucked when I want to have my sister and her 2 kids over, but I asked the apartment manager about it and she said it was to curb the pool parties people would have.

My old complex was in a college town. It was surrounded by a wooden fence that was really hard to climb and it was locked. Since it was a college town, the leases always ran August 1st to July 31st, so come August 1st, they were changing the locks on the pool and you had to get a new key.

We've had a similar problem with our community pool. We're in a gated community, yet you have residents that invite twenty of their friends to use the pool, and/or you have people from the nearby neighborhoods who tailgate other cars in, then they rush on over to the pool. We have keys to get in, but many prop the door open for others.

Someone recently broke the lock off the gate, so now anyone can get in, even under 18 year olds.

Heh, my complex doesn't have any gates or anything....but the pools do.

Of course, one of the pools is out of commission due to being remodeled. Supposed be done around the 4th, but considering how many times I've walked by there in the middle of the day the last 2 weeks and not seen a single person around doing any work, I somehow doubt it's going to be open before it gets too cold to swim (and around here, that can be into October).

I've never gone to either pool because I really don't want to see some of my neighbors in swimsuits. I see one guy waaaaay too much without a shirt on to begin with.

My apartment complex had a "two guests" limit, and we were supposed to have the said guests registered with the leasing office, but I'm not sure how often that was actually enforced.......it was quite rare to see more than one or two people using the pool anyhow. Which is why I found it odd that the reasons the newer property management company shortened pool hours and put padlocks on the pool gates were because of "pool parties and excessive noise at night".

I'd suggest to the management that they charge a few dollars for day passes over and above the single guest. "Pool party? No problem! Please give us some advance notice so we can use the pass money to hire extra staff to handle your friends."
