I Want My Discount!

So, yesterday I stopped in at the restaurant where I work. It was my day off, I was just dropping in with something for my boss, and to say hello. While I was there, I had the dubious pleasure of witnessing what goes on at the front counter. (I work in the kitchen, by choice.) This... older "gentleman"... gives his order to the young man at the register, the young man takes his payment, gives the older gentleman his change, and all of a sudden... "YOU DIDN'T GIVE ME MY DISCOUNT!!! I WANT MY DISCOUNT!" What discount is this? Oh, of course, the senior discount... the one you didn't ask for. In my restaurant, if you don't ask for the senior discount, you don't get it. Why? Because we're not going to play guess your age. Anyway, he proceeds to scream at the entire front-end crew about being denied his discount. Manager R stops what she's taking care of and steps in and says "Sir, if you'll have a seat, I will take care of that for you in just a moment." So instead of taking his number and drink cup and taking a seat in the dining room, he shoves the counter display aside and proceeds to SIT ON THE COUNTER, stopping anyone else from ordering. It took three managers to get him off the counter, and he wouldn't stop his constant tirade until he got the amount of the discount back in his hand. How much was he complaining about? Thirty-six cents.

Forget the discount, at this point he should be banned. Tantrums which disrupt a business are not acceptable in public above the age of 3 or so. If he get's a senior discount, then he's too old to act like that.

Why didn't somebody call the cops & have them take care of that guy? Wanting a discount is one thing, what he did went wayyyyyy over the line. & IF it took THREE managers to get him off the counter then calling 911 should have been a no-brainer.

i tersely asked people to remove their children's backsides from out counter and this individual felt it was ok to do so as an adult? very wtf.

at that point, he should have been escorted out and banned...all this stupidity and childishness over 36 cents.

omg this reminds me of this asshat I had back when we offered a military discount. My cw had put her discount on, but then there was an error with the machine that I had to fix. When the machine came back on it didn't have her discount on and I didn't put it back on, because I didn't know about it in the first place. She gets to the second window and tells the girl there that she didn't get the discount and I tell the girl just to give it to her as it was only 40 something cents. Then the lady demands to speak to a manager and I go over there and she bitches for a good four minutes about how my CW is unpatriotic and doesn't appreciate her service to our country and she even reminded him twice to put the discount on so she doesn't see why it wasn't there. And this speech came AFTER I apologized and took the blame because I didn't know about needing the discount. Grrrr.

Unless you're in porn. But counters are probably too narrow for that purpose.

Ya know, if I had been a customer witnessing this I'd have asked how much the discount was.

Then I'd have given him his fucking 38 cents.

I've done that to people holding up grocery lines and screaming at cashiers for matters less than 50 cents.

Usually it results in a hidden smile from the cashier, a glare from the SC and laughter from the rest of the line. It gets the point across, though.

His ass should have been banned. The management deserves a smack for putting up with this crap.

If the owner had been in the restaurant when it happened, rest assured he would have gotten nothing but a boot in the ass on his way out. She was, however, running errands that needed to be done before the bank closed. If I'd had change on me, I would have just given him the 36 cents myself, but I wasn't carrying any cash at that moment. Then again, I shouldn't have to carry small change to pacify people 3 times my age.

I've always heard you could get military workers in trouble this way, but I never really knew how to go about doing it. Plus, even if I ask, do they have to tell me?

I'm just really glad we don't have the discount anymore. The men in uniform were ALWAYS nice and polite and great to serve. The women in uniform were not so much. OH, and don't get me started on the military wives. Grrr. I, myself, am a military wife and I would NEVER go to a store and demand a discount. If I knew they had one, fine, but I wouldn't go on the long spiel about how 'my husband fights for your freedom blah blah blah'.

ugggg I am also military wife. Some of the other wives drive me nuts. I had one the other day who bitched about mart of wall not giving discounts and how she deserved one. I told her how i am also a military wife and i never once asked for a discount. My husband gets them when he is in his uniform......he doesnt really ask eithier.


My other fav is when you ask for photo Id and they move the dl just to get out the military ID.

Lol my boyfriend/fiance/whatever does this, but not to get any sort of discount. He's never ever asked for one. I have no idea what his motivation is though. Maybe so people will think he's cool?
I've never really understood why the wives think they deserve a discount. I don't do anything. Yeah, it sucks when he's gone, but his job is a lot harder than mine. The only thing I can think of is that it sucks to have to bring him somewhere to get the discount, but I'd never throw a fit about it.
