  • Came to someone's defense tonight

I always thought to myself, one of these days, if I ever ran into a situation where I was standing around somewhere waiting in line or where ever, and saw someone go off on the employees there, that I would tell them to lay off.

    Finally got that chance tonight.

Went to a local restaurant to get food and was waiting for my order when a lady came storming back in and was irate that her order got screwed up. She apparently had to come back once before this because of something, and claimed the girl behind the counter intentionally added too many pickles to her and her kids food. The poor MoD was being as conciliatory as she could be, but nothing was appeasing this lady. I don't know if the girl in back intentionally did what she did to the ladies food, but when the SC said this was the worst service at this restaurant she ever had and called the MoD a "pathetic manager", I had enough. I told the lady to lay off, and she was doing the best she could. Lady sure didn't like that and told me to "**** off" and "mind my own damn business". I fired back saying she didn't have to call the manager pathetic. A few more words were exchanged until the MoD pulled the lady to the side and started talking with her more while still being apologetic. The lady did apologize for stepping out of line. I noticed a girl in the back while the MoD and lady were talking give me a silent "thank you" from behind the counter.

I got my food and the lady followed me out and threw a couple more slurs my way as I walked out of the parking lot, but I just ignored her.

Sorry for the wall of text there, and I was kinda nervous telling this lady to back off, but it sure felt good afterwards now that I'm sitting here. It gets to a point where you go from being irate to just out of line, and that lady crossed it. I've been in customer service for a long time, and I know what it's like to have to try and be conciliatory since it's your job to do so. Maybe I was in the wrong here, but I'm as most of you know, a lot of people can't speak their minds when on the job. I don't have a problem taking some heat off them because there is no repercussions for me speaking out since I don't work there. Hopefully it will make the lady think twice about going over the line in the future since I probably embarrassed her quite a bit in the restaurant.

Well, you always take a chance when you do this.

But SC's and EW's need to be shown that the public around them does NOT appreciate their suckiness.

Quite frankly, I think it will take a revolution on the part of the public at large to put an end to SCs.
They say that God only gives us what we can handle. Apparently, God thinks I'm a bad ass.

Like I said, maybe the girl behind the counter did it intentionally because of something that happened earlier when I wasn't there. Worst case scenario and the girl employee did do it, a specific moment like that, a manager is not going to have control over something she didn't see. The poor MoD not only has to take the brunt of the ladies wrath, but apologize for a mistake or incident that wasn't her fault to begin with. That was where I had a problem when the lady crossed the line by calling the MoD pathetic.

Hopefully I was able to make their night a little better by standing up and doing what I did though. I agree people need to learn there is a line that shouldn't be crossed in situations like this. Entitlement whores need to learn they can't always get away with the crap they pull.

And she kicked up a fuss like that over a few too many pickles??

If that was the worse thing that ever happened to her, she'd be a very lucky woman!

Good for you, most SCs like this assume that nobody will speak up, because they assume that nobody is smart enough to realize that they are completely out of line.

I wasnt there prior to her second visit, so I don't know what was wrong with her initial order that made her drive back to the restaurant. I walked in the restaurant when she was waiting for her new order as this was her return trip back. She left the store and came back in shortly there after since she must have checked her food in the car. I don't know if it was so much the specific number of pickles or anything, but probably just the fact she felt someone in the back passively-aggressive screwed around with her food by putting too many pickles on it when she had asked for extra.

I don't think you are out of line at all. For those of us that have had to spend years being verbally abused and mistreated by customers with no option other than to stand there and take it, I certainly think it's nice to occasionally have the chance to talk back to a customer with no fear of loosing your job or getting in trouble. The only time we can do this is in that type of situation where we are are customers in a store where we don't work.

I did this exact thing in a McDonalds one evening when a man was swearing at the teenaged girls behind the counter for messing up his order. I asked him to stop and think about if he honestly thought it was appropriate for an adult man to be cursing two 16 year old girls. He told me to butt out, of course. So I remarked to him that I would spank my 4 year old son if he ever acted like this guy was acting. Suprisingly, he immediately bolted for the door and left. I think I may have embarassed him into reforming his ways.

Or he was afraid of a spanking .

Or worse, he had an inappropriate reaction to the thought of being spanked and left before anyone noticed.

It most certainly is your business. If you have to see it, smell it, hear it, or step in it, it's your business.

"Mind your own business" is the mantra of bullies everywhere who just want to victimize defenseless people without being called on it.

                    Good for you.

                      Darn right.

I had a mega 'Proud Mum' moment last week when the mother of a girl in my sons class told me that a couple of other kids had been picking on her daughter at lunchtime, and my son had stepped in and told them they were bullying her and needed to stop.
When they tried the line 'we were just having a laugh' he answered with 'well (girls name) isn't laughing, and I bet if I tell the headmistress, she won't laugh either.' The girl was left to eat her lunch in peace after that.
And he never mentioned it to me, but the girl told her mother, and she was praising him to me at the school gates.

Am I proud of him or what?

Why are there so many pickles? The brochure said there'd only be a few pickles. This is a terrible vacation.

She probably went there the first time to complain she ordered extra pickles and there weren't enough (in her mind). Then the extras they put on were too many (in her mind), so went back to bitch more. =P

My Nephew kept getting in to trouble in his first year of school because he would protect the girls from the bullys. Of course being 5 he wouldn't always do it verbally so it would lead to trouble..

His Dad was very good at 'telling him off' whilst making it clear to everyone else that he was proud of him for standing up for them.
