I try to never do autopay.

There are problems with it that can go far beyond what can be fixed with even the closing of the account. (with US banks, autopay can be pulled from even a closed bank account, the same as with outstanding checks)

Also, since I pay manually, I get to decide what day it comes out of my account. That way, if things are tight and I need one extra day to pay, I have it.

We don't either. Oh, sure, we'll sometimes use a company's convenient online bill-pay to save on checks, but it's always on our terms. We've yet to have a problem because of it.
