  • So much for the day off...

This is from one of my guests tonight.

Guest is a trucker, and just got done doing a bunch of stints over in Eastern WA. Today was supposed to be his day off, and he was going to his home on the peninsula.

His boss called him and asked if he could "just make a quick run up to [my town]" to pick up a shipment of fish and deliver it down south somewhere. Guest obliged, since it wasn't too far out of the way and it was some extra cash. He'd still be able to make it home by the end of the day after all, right?

Guest went to the docks. Guest waited for three hours. Guest finally got a call from the skipper of the fishing vessel saying they'd be back into port around midnight.

Guest came to my motel and got one of my last rooms. Guest's wife is very upset he's not going to be home tonight. Guest is very upset, too, and is pondering denying any further favors for his boss.

So much for his day off...

I wouldn't do any further favors for boss that screwed me out of a day off w/ my significant other!

        I quite agree.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

I just hope he got paid for the wasted trip.
