  • Suckiest Customers I've Ever Seen

My first thought was to post this in Check it Out, but it IS about sucky customers, not off-topic, so is here ok?

Maybe everyone else already knows about this show, but I don't watch very many reality shows (or a lot of TV at all, really) had some spare time and was playing channel roulette the other day for something to semi-watch while I worked on some boring desk projects, and stumbled on a show called Hardcore Pawn. It's about a family owned pawn shop in a tough section of Detroit. It was on one of the smaller cable channels, not sure what one.

I've watched just a few episodes now, and it's like a train wreck, you don't want to watch, but you can't look away Some of those customers make the SC's on this website look like little angels.

People literally screaming and yelling because they won't give them a $50 loan on a $20 item, the constant theme is "give me MY money", the ultimate EW's, whatever they want is what they should get, period. Customers literally being carried out of the shop by security guards that make the biggest bar bouncers look like wimps. Customers trying to climb across a counter to hit the salespeople. I keep hoping some of it's staged, but hate to say that it looks pretty real.

There is the odd hilarious moment though, I was ROFL watching one dude trying to sell/pawn an item, but had to keep consulting with "Robert" - whom only he could see. He eventually became abusive (they don't put up with a lot of sh** there) and was escorted out, and the owner followed behind a few minutes later with "Robert" by the hand, telling the guy he'd forgotten him, at which point the guy was "oh, thanks so much, I got upset and forgot him" and happily walks off with his arm around "Robert".

Really, if you want to feel better about your own SC's you have to deal with, or just want to watch SC's being treated as they deserve, check it out.

    Madness takes it's toll....

That pawn shop is awesome, got my laptop from there. Some of the people in there are fricken trippy. And while the store looks larger on the show it's not a bad place. Didn't get to see Ashley but did get to meet Seth.

I think it's on the History channel.

The "customers" sound really sucky. I can see why they have security there.

Next summer when I go to Vegas, I'm going to visit the pawn store that's on the Pawn Stars show. Plus I'd like to see some of the coins they have there.

On the show, there doesn't appear to be even the slightest spark of intelligence on his face... Is he that way in real life too?

I've seen that (I watch History channel a lot, lol). They have some amazingly interesting things on the show coming into their shop, as well as some really weird stuff. Much more interesting than the stuff that comes into the other show - though I have a feeling that most real pawn shops are more like the one on Hardcore Pawn than on Pawn Stars, alas.

i watched a couple of episodes of one of those shows and it was hilarious. The funniest one was a woman trying to pawn her mother false teeth, her mother was still alive and at home, she even put them in to her mouth to prove they don't taste weird.

i take it the shop said "fuck no!" ? or the tv equivalent?

Most of those "reality" shows are pretty tightly scripted, just like any other show. They have to get permission from anybody they film & shows like Operation Repo (TruTv) are ALL actors.

Ever notice how there's never any real violence on Cops (the original reality show) & the cops are always funny or interesting? That's because they're all screened by the department & the producers for looks & personality. The reason you'll sometimes see a perp's face blocked is because they didn't want to give permission, whereas the others are dumb crooks who think it's cool they're on TV.Had a cop that was on an episode of Cops tell me that.

Hardcore Pawn is on Tru TV, although while I can't stand the customers, the owner and his children are even *worse*. I've read some reviews of a woman who loaned her 250 bracelet there, they said they could do no more than 50, she comes back in a month and they had put it out for 450!

That's how pawn shops stay in business. Buy cheap as possible, sell at higher prices for profit.

Sometimes the items aren't worth the hassle so they make a lowball offer to make the customer refuse and walk away.

Sometimes they want to keep the item on their shelf as a "draw" so they'll overprice it to keep people from buying it.
