  • My Laundry Room Suck

Every two weeks, I have to go up to my mom's to do her shopping and her laundry. This past weekend was my weekend to do so. Anyways, there was someone using the washers before me, so I waited for them to be done so I could put my mom's clothes in the washer. So then I waited for the dryers ahead of me to finish so that I could put the clothes in the dryer. I even gave the people about a 5 minute window to take their stuff out...they didn't so I did. So as I go to claim my mom's clothes, one of the dryer doors was opened and there was note on it (this is coming from memory):
"To whoever took my clothes out of the dryer, don't touch our clothes. The dryer's were done at 10 after and you took my clothes at 15 after. Thank you for being so inconsiderate and impatient".

Normally, I would wait but I still had to do my mom's shopping and I had a 2 hour drive after that. I guess the note wouldn't have pissed me off...but the turning the dryer off did. Fortunately, I was checking the dryers with about 15 minutes left and there was still enough time to dry the clothes in there.

This is why, where I work, we have a strict policy that only attendants such as myself can remove clothing. Because customers will get VICIOUS with each other over laundry! People are as weirdly territorial about laundry machines as they are about parking spaces.

It was in my mom's apartment complex. I learned a long time ago that if I wait for some people, I find that I'm waiting a couple hours. I've had times where I've taken their clothes out, finish my loads and still have the loads on top of the dryers.

There are a few neighbors we have who get downright nasty if you touch their laundry. One in particular went off on my other neighbor for touching his "pantaloons".

Not to sound like an ass, but if you don't want people touching your laundry, then get a good idea of when the dryer is done.....

In that case, oh well! IMO, they are being VERY inconsiderate hogging washers/dryers for however long they feel like it. They deserve their clothes "touched". And you'd think this might spur them to get their stuff sooner.

They don't know it's you, do they? I mean unless they saw you do it there's no way they know?

EDITED to add: and so what if they were gonna come get them 5 minutes after you did? Or that you got them 5 minutes after they stopped? What are you, psychic? If it happened to me I'd probably just assume they needed to wash something, STAT!

If their note made me angry enough, I would have whipped out a pen and wrote them an answer.

"Don't want me touching your clothes? Then come get them yourself, you inconsiderate cow."

I was half tempted to pull their note out of the trash and start correcting their grammtical errors and putting it on the front door.

NOrmally, I don't care but that's when I'm home and doing my own laundry. When I'm looking at a 2 hour drive ahead of me, my time becomes a little more precious.

Correct their grammatical errors and then write a note saying something along the lines of "10% F-. See teacher after class." Really make them feel like an idiot.

Honestly, I can see why it would be jarring to realize someone had touched your clothes (could be a pervert, you never know), but if you're THAT worried about it, stick around and watch your clothes. How is that a hard concept to understand for those people?

When you're in a complex where 50 people have to share a single set of machines, you get your shit out when it's done, or the person behind you does so for you.

This is why I do our laundry early Sunday AMs. The laundry room at our complex is dead at that time. I also have the times for the washing and drying machines down pat, and I arrive 5 minutes before they finish.

I used to do it on Saturday afternoons - OY vey. I would literally wait about 10 minutes for someone to take their washing out of the machine. I'm sorry, but after 10 minutes, screw you. And I too have had instances where I've done the washing AND the drying (90 minutes in all), and that person would still not have picked up their stuff.

Part of me says to write below it "no one cares. stfu" or "world doesn't revolve around you sunshine. the rest of us have better things to do then wait for you to move your lazy ass"... but you probably don't want to cause waves.

but seriously what are they going to do? call the laundry police on you? not everyone has all day to wait for them to get off their asses to get their laundry.

hell where i use to live people would leave their shit out for hours.

had one lady actually knock on my door and complain at me because i took her dryer and her laundry was still wet. she tried to accuse me of pulling it out while it was still running.

she didn't believe that it was off when I did it. but i never changed my story. it was off, and iirc it had been off for a while too. NMP

See, this is the reason I just stayed with my laundry when I was using the shared machines. Took a book, or my PSP/Gamebay, and waited it out. It was better when I worked third shift--I just did laundry at 3-4 AM! I'm sorry to report I still had to empty dryers at that hour sometimes.

If they know the exact time the dryers finished, why the frak weren't they there to empty them?

You could have taken a picture of the note (and an attached reply) and posted it here:
