  • Shoplifter Scum

My ex-wife and I parted on good terms about two years ago and she married a real nice guy who owns his own business in clothing retail. I’m retired IT and when they had some problems with one of their store computers, I agreed to take a look at it. While working on the computer, I heard a loud noise then some crying. I asked the clerk what happened. A shoplifter grabbed some stuff and ran out the front entrance. Along the way he slammed into a three year old little girl causing her to hit her head on the door. I took off after him. The clerk, being alone, had to stay with the store. Well, this being the desert (it was around 108 that day) and me being me (almost 50), I didn’t make much headway. I lost him in a large apartment complex. I was about to give up when I saw someone walking out from the pool area. I called out “Excuse me. Have you seen a …” At this point he turned around. It was the shoplifter. As soon I recognized him, he recognized me. He must of seen me in the store. He immediately pulled out a knife from his pocket and started advancing. Ever since my paratrooper days in the Army, I’ve always carried a knife. That day it was my FS Commando knife my kids bought me for Christmas one year. I pulled out my knife, flicked it open and started to move in on the guy. His eyes widened and he turned and ran again. Unfortunately, I still couldn’t catch him, but at least he gave me a good look so I could describe him in detail to the cops. The little girl turned out to be okay. All that for a $4 t-shirt.

Wow Glad that asshole didn't hurt anyone seriously. Did the cops nab him?

Not only nabbed him, but threw away the key. Stealing is commonplace. Assaulting a child is unforgivable.

Good for you, scumbags like that need to be taught a lesson...too bad you didn't catch up to him, hopefully the cops bring him in.

Hey, give the poor guy a break ... he probably thought you were a pushover, easily intimidated.
When you pulled your knife, he probably had to rush home and change his underwear.

I hope the cops caught him. People like that need to be taught a lesson.

He got taught one. Even if you do bring a knife to a knife fight doesn't mean you're able to fight with a knife, unlike the OP

looked up the FS Commando knife on google images. nice looking ... dagger.

i'm sure he shat himself when he pulled out what, a pocket knife, only to find himself facing a dagger.

That kinda reminds me of an incident my dad experienced once-My dad was a long-haul truck driver, and he ended up in bad areas and situations sometimes, so he got licensed to carry a concealed handgun, and also kept a rifle in his rig all the time. So, imagine a mugger's surprise when he tries to corner my older-looking, rather skinny and scrawny dad and pulls a knife to demand my dad's wallet, and has a gun pointed straight between his eyes. My dad always keeps his guns loaded, too. Safety off.

I just wish I could've seen the look on that guy's face.
