So would I. However, I would have responded to the "Crayons are for little kids" comment with, "So is Trick or Treat, asshole."

Thank you for that seltzer soda nasal rinse.

Just got in from a three hour trick or treat extravaganza. OMG I had no idea the neighborhood up the street was the epicenter of all things Halloween. Holy crap! People come from literally across town to come to this thing. I saw a lot of teenagers, but to their credit, they at least wore costumes and were getting into the spirit of things, which was cool.

Uh guys? We're skirting Fratching here. Can we please redirect our attention to the idiots the OP mentioned...and leave the castle law stuff to Fratching?
Sorry if that created a stir, it was meant as a question, not an actual suggestion. My apologies to the board & MODs.

On a lighter note, we had a few adorable trick or treaters, and they were all polite. and the porch light is officially off as of right now. Lol.

Happy Halloween everyone and Be Safe however you celebrate!

Had the fewest ever visitors this year. No clue why either, kids normally go out of their way to come to my house. I let them pick their own candy, and they get a lot of it. Even giving about double what I normally do, however, I still have enough candy to last till NEXT year.
Engaged to the amazing Marmalady. She is my Silver Dragon, shining as bright as the sun. I her Black Dragon (though good honestly), dark as night..fierce and strong.

This year I had errands to run (shipping quilts) so I just hung my candy pumpkin on Francesca, my 3 foot tall metal flamingo on my porch. After I got home and put the kiddos to bed (they're odd, they like to dress up, but don't like candy) hubby and I put on a movie and cuddled on the couch.

We used it as a local stupid detector. I can't fault the kids for running up and ringing the doorbell, but most people saw the bright blue pumkin o'candy.

Not one lady. She came up and rang the doorbell. And waited. And rang it again. Then looked through our front window. Then pounded on the door. Finally hubby paused the movie and I got up to answer the door.
          Me: "Can I help you?"
Lady: "Yeah, it's Halloween." Meanwhile her kids that she's escorting are pawing through the candy.
Me: "Yeah and the candy's right there, feel free to have some. My small children are in bed trying to sleep, that's why we put it out here this year."
          Lady: Catbuttface and walks off.

Gah. Had it happen to me tonight. No porch light on - but a knock at the door. I live in a three story townhouse and before I could get to the door they started in on the doorbell as well. My cousin/roommate works graveyards .

Luckily two of the neighbors in the complex (all seven units) ended up setting up a table outside so that they wouldn't have to run up and down stairs. They also ended up directing the kids. So "Yay" for good neighbors, at least.

I had a similar thing happen though it was only mildly sucky. I was in my room reading GK's post when I heard a knock on the door. Since I wasn't expecting anyone, I assumed this was something else. Then the person POUNDED on the door. This is how my brother usually knocks on my door, so I figured he was in the area. It was 3 trick or treaters. I had to tell them I didn't have anything since I was planning on going out tonight.

I had two trick or treaters come by my house.

1 came the day before Halloween, no costume, all by himself. Yeeaaah... No.

The other came around on the day wearing only a witchs hat. No effort, no lollies.

Call me cruel, but most Aussies don't celebrate Halloween (with reason).

I bought some goodies in, but when the time came I was feeling under the weather & in pain & not up to hobbling to the door every few mins, so I turned the lights out, shut the curtains & played scary games in the dark

As it was, I peeped out a few times & the only kids I really saw going around were the neighbourhood terrors... minimal costume & being a pain as usual, so no loss.

I'm sure my 2 older kids will finish up the goodies eventually
                    Arp happens!

Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today.

The first Halloween where we had our big, friendly, orange cat "Orange Bastard", he actually started crying because all these people were coming to our door but none of them were coming in to pet him.
                      Poor kitty!

What I want to know is since when does Trick or Treating start BEFORE dark? I always set out at dusk to get a good start, but nowadays it seems like all the candy is gone and all the kids are home by 6pm.

Our area holds it from 6 - 8 PM. It's usually not dark by 6.

only one kid showed up after i posted... so overall maybe 10 kids - my bf reminded me that the first group had 3 kids. one wasn't even in costume but in all honesty we didn't care. figured he was the "escort" for his younger brother. i mean seriously we got so few kids i was just giving out big handfuls.

and on a side note, someone's cat was running around. i picked it up and tried to find the owner - no luck - and then the thing decided i could be mom i guess ... it followed one kid around and then came back to meow outside my door and come inside.

had to take a walk around the complex just to lose him. i mean cute kitty but it had a collar but no tags. and as much as id like a cat my bf doesn't want pets until we have our own place

That wasn't a trick or treater. That was a pan handler.

which reminds me... whenever halloween is close to a weekend, i always see some county trying to "change" the trick-or-treat day to ensure the kids aren't out on a weeknight.

which is interesting because they haven't yet figured out... no one listens to that. i heard it suggested here on the radio i think but ... nope no one went out as far as i know on sunday.
