I should probably get a TSO album or two. I do like them as well but I'm not as familiar with their stuff.

tonight one of the servers switched the satelite radio to the "holiday" channel (read Xmas music)

I was turning case lights off last night when I heard "let it snow". I just stood there dumbfounded shaking my head. Its WAY too early for Christmas music.

Can't remember if it was mentioned here or elsewhere, but "Let It Snow" is fall/winter music and not Christmas music; the poor song suffers guilt by association.

[RANT] Every year so far, Sirius-XM has changed one of the classical channels to Christmas music, which duplicates the programs on another channel. I see no reason for them to have two channels with the same overplayed Christmas music and deprive us of quality classical music. Ugh! There are times I would love to skip from Thanksgiving Day to Boxing Day, and avoid the intervening chaos.[/RANT]

my little rant goes like this:

for 3 years that I worked for the gas station, we were required to tune the over the air radio on NOV 1st (to Jan 1) to the local radio station that played 24/7 Xmas music. now this station had a somewhat limited playlist (come on there is only so many Xmas songs out there). try working 5 9-hour shifts a week for 2 months straight and literally learning the playlist BY HEART by the middle of November.

and then there were the novelty items were got to carry during THAT season. dancing this, singing that, music playin something. and the customers JUST HAD to try them.

but I will admit sometimes to relieve the boredom I would get some of the singing things in a round like Row Row Row your boat. for 30 seconds it was neat, then got irritating.

you would not believe how many versions of certain songs there are and most "covers" are TERRIBLE.

and the server in my above post wondered why I almost got stabby

I still think it's a little too early for winter songs...yeah, some people love winter, but it doesn't start for about 6 more weeks...can't we wait until at least after US Thanksgiving??

Two years ago, the Christmas playlist drove us so nuts at our store that a manager 'accidentally' turned down the volume. Some customer complained and we were forced to turn it back to normal volume a week before Christmas. You might hear a song twice in a shift during a NORMAL 8-hour shift, so a playlist that looped every 3-4 hours (counting different versions of songs) meant that during an 8-hour shift you could hear the same song three times. And some songs you'd hear more like 10 times because of all the versions.

Last year I threatened to take over the sound system with an ipod full of TSO so we could at least endure GOOD Christmas music. The managers were amused.
It's little things that make the difference between 'enjoyable', 'tolerable', and 'gimme a spoon, I'm digging an escape tunnel'.

"Let It Snow" can officially play in our town, it snowed tonight. And stuck. But it's all slushy and yucky.

I really hate how limited the Christmas/holiday repertoire is.

Although I do like some songs. Like "I Am Santa Claus" (possibly NSFW) and "Santa Sucks" (possibly NSFW, too)

*sigh* Most stores around me have had at list a bit of Christmas stuff out since mid-October, maybe sooner. Menard's has pretty much their entire Christmas section up. KMart has most of theirs up. Same for Pamida, WalMart, Bomgaars, Mills Fleet Farm, and most other stores around here. One holiday at a time seems to be a foreign concept anymore. I love Christmas, but...Not THAT early! Wow!

ETA: Racket_Man... *twitch* that last post made me SO glad my C-store does NOT have an overhead radio.

Believe you me, I will never enjoy Christmas and winter themed music or cheer until I am in a state of constant sunshine and no snow, laying out in my bikini. Then I might start singing "Let it snow" when I call everyone up in Wisconsin.

Until then, here's my rendition of an old Christmas favorite.

With the roads slick and icy
And everyone driving right up your reeeeear
It's the most miserable time of year.
