  • Her money isn't good enough.

I stalk the Glitter Hell facebook page because apparently, I don't get enough of the customer bitching while I'm being paid to deal with it, anyway--I'd asked awhile back to see where to post things regarding that, and they said here, if I'm just quoting for discussion. So, the quote:

Quoth Entitled Moron who thinks she far more special than everyone else
I'm completely disgusted with your store in Victoria BC. The manager would not accept US funds for my purchase of $150, because she said the store loses money due to the exchange rate. I can't believe in this economy a store would turn down a $150 sale. Apparently your store is too good for my money.
now, I READ their facebook page, but I don't post there, because that would be bad.

Does the woman not realize that the BC is... in Canada? Where...they have their own money? Which is not USD?

Something tells me she's going to go apeshit next time a Canadian penny makes it's way into her change.

(I really want to post on her thing, and point out that she's a moron, but um. will not)

my job is similar... according to one of the training lessons if we see someone complaining about the store we're suppose to ignore it and tell HR.

I personally do only half of that... I just ignore it. Mainly because of all the times I've disagreed with a letter-writer at M3C or PFB and got accused of being "an employee." So when I ended up getting a job with a retail company I started ignoring threads about the company.

Now for the Victoria BC situation... I can see that. I mean sure it's kinda close to Washington & Oregon ... if you don't mind crossing the river, but unless that store is making enough money from sales they may have a specific reason to say "no foreign money". In cities that are VERY close to the border stores are often set up to take either... but it's still the store's choice.

Just because the customer is uppity about it does not create a situation where the store has to bend over backwards to please her.

Perhaps if the exchange rate was better than $1 USD to $1.014 CAN.... but right now it doesn't look like much of a deal. As it is... the $150 is only giving the store $152.145 CAN... so getting that changed over could indeed cost them more than what the profit is worth.

I'm only 25 miles from the border on the other side, and we don't take Canadian currency. I haven't gotten b*tched at for a while about it, but some people get livid that we won't take their looney-tooney money. (Now that I've posted this, I've probably jinxed myself, and the next customer I encounter is going to go into a rage that we won't take Canadian cash.)

I posted about the last guy who gave me currency exchange hell: http://www.customerssuck.com/board/s...ad.php?t=78462

They are different countries, with different currencies. People need to accept that and work with that.

The border stores could increase the foreign currency price of their goods to cover the money exchange costs, but the SCs would just complain about that too.

Come to think, they could just use their credit cards, but that also incurs an exchange fee.

          hell why not.
the throughway does it in ny - canadian currency is discounted 25%... or it was a year ago.

so even though the loony is worth 99.1 cents, the throughway will only credit you 75 cents for it.

I've even heard there were some regions of Canada that don't accept Canadian currency. Instead they exchange pink camo clothing for goods and services.

Another thing that occurred to me, regarding her purchase: things cost more in Canada. That is, something that is labelled 14.99 here, is often labelled 25.99 or 29.99 whatever, on the Canadian portion of the tag. So, assuming she was fairly close to the US border, she should have just gone to a US store...and been able to purchase way more with her US money. Plus, they take US money! On account of it being...in the US.

She's the kind of person who ruins things for everyone.

                      I want some snow too!

This week highs run from 60-70 (mostly over 65 though).
The lows are in the mid 50s...
