I hate that metaphore. I judge hundreds of books by their covers every day and haven't been fired yet.

You're not the only one, and I'm not even in the book business any more. There's so much junk published that you need some sort of filter. Sure, you're going to miss a few good ones. But you'll miss hundreds of bad ones for every good one that passes you by this way, so it's more than an even trade.
