  • And they found this fit to print because....?

Attached is a PDF of a special section in the local newsrag today featuring one of the local high school boy's basketball teams. May take a while to load on slow internet connections.

Pay particular attention to the photo at the bottom right corner of the page. Poor kid in it will never live it down.

I really should not be surprised at this. This is a newspaper that seemingly can never be delivered on time, and once published somebody's scam letter in the yearly "Children's Letters to Santa" insert. Allegedly it is staffed by trained journalism professionals. No, really.

I admit, I laughed. But why would they think that's a good picture to post in the newspaper? Does they have someone obsessed with memes working there trying to start the next big thing?

Even good old Chuck Brown was allowed to have a human face...

Did anyone else notice that poor kid's last name, too? GOEHRING! I know it's not EXACTLY the same as the infamous Nazi war criminal, but geez...doesn't this young man have enough against him already??

I was laughing too but I was laughing at the first picture with the kid in front with the 2 basketballs showing right between his legs. LOL!

It looks like the kid was throwing the ball straight at the camera or the photographer. I wonder if it hit the camera or photographer?

I have to say, I think it's a cool shot. As to how the kid feels about it ... that would depend on his personality. Some kids will just laugh it off and might even want a copy; others, yeah, they might find it really embarrassing. But to be honest, I was expecting something a lot worse. This is silly but I don't see it as humiliating. (Although in this age of digital cameras, it's not really such a big deal to get a shot like that.)

Ironclad, maybe the kid was aiming for the photographer Anything further along in the paper about a staff member being concussed during the game, Irving?

The scam letter to Santa is a different kettle of fish. Somebody really fell down on the job on that one. No random URL should go into a newspaper without somebody checking it first, for exactly that reason.
