My mom - when flustered - had been known to go through her sisters' names and then my older sister's names (that had lived with their dad since I can remember) before finally getting around to my name.
My dear, old granny does that, too - she goes through my sister's name and my two cousins names and then pause, before she remembers mine. Oh well, it's not like I'm her oldest grandchild and she's know me for almost 32 years ..

Are they red by any chance?
Actually, yes, some of them ARE And yellow... And silver and gold... But the ones I primarily see are red

My mother and grandmother have done similar things...when my grandma would try to remember my name, she'd usually call me by my cousin's name and my cousin by her mother's name. And my mom sometimes calls me by the dog's name, and the cat by the other dog's name. Good times. I'm glad everyone knows everyone's name.

Ugh, my mother does that. She'll see me eating something and she'll say, "What are you eating?" in the most accusatory tone imaginable. It's like I'm a four year old who just got caught with a lollypop before dinner.

1- Solo cups must be red. Always. All other colors don't actually exist in Solo cups. Because everyone knows party drinks taste best when out of red Solo cups.

2- Like to see someone try that random name guessing with me. Since my name isn't normally a name at all (although, apparently since I was born it's become more common, but more common than like only 2 of us in one state still isn't common). Chances of them guessing are zero.

My mom would call me by my sister's name when she was irritated with something. I would counter with "[Sister] isn't here. It's just me", which would irritate her even more. When she would say something to my dad, he'd just say something along the lines of "Well, she's got a point..."
                  Random conversation:
Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
                  DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

This is what my four little brothers did to the parental units: Picked new names
                      B2C6 - Nobody,
                      B3C7 - Somebody,
                      B4C8 - Everybody,
                      B5C10 - Anybody,
and at some point they named Mom and Dad You and Who .
                      I am not an a**hole. I am a hemorrhoid. I irritate a**holes!

That's somewhat appropriate, since from other threads it sounds like she treats you like a dog.

                          p...people do this? for reals?

I should do this sometime. "Hey! Marty! Jackson! Percival! Roger! Hunter! Chad! Chad! It's Chad, right?!"

And watch them as they ಠ_ಠ at me.
LOL I do this to my classmates sometimes when I don't know their name. Only when they are rreally close to me, but their back is turned. I just say a random name really forcefully and hope they turn around. It actually works more often then not. People are naturally curious and want to see your conversation with the person you called even if it's not them. Then I explain that I don't know thier name and everyone laughs. I try to do it in a humourous way and not a way where I think they should respond to whatever I call them. Works with guys a lot more than girls for some reason.

My grandmother does it, too...I'm one of only 2 granddaughters, so she goes through my mother's and aunts' names first. My brother & male cousins get the whole list - in fact, my brother and one cousin have both been known to answer to "Shaunrad" (made by smooshing their names "Shaun" & "Conrad" together). My mother, as the eldest of my grandmother's children, says that she would often be expected to answer to one of her aunts' names.

As for the OP - I never look around or respond to "hey," "hey you," or any variation thereof. If they don't at least get some sort of description in there (yellow shirt, you with the hat, etc), I give them the benefit of assuming they aren't yelling at me like an idiot. The only exception is at work when it came be assumed that a customer standing at the counter yelling "hey, you!" is trying to reach an employee...and I'd rather kill 'em with politeness myself than subject one of my crew to someone without manners...heh.

My mum (Kathleen) has three sisters, one older (Maureen) and two younger (Helen, then Christine). Story in our family is that Aunty Helen throughout her childhood answered to Chrhelen. My grandma would always mix up the sisters names, and also my name. I could understand getting called Christine and Kathleen as my name starts with a C too, but I am more often referred to as Helen, and not just by Grandma, but by mum and my aunties as well.

Mum only has one daughter, you'd think she would get it right. It's when she goes through the list "Maure... Hel... Chris..." then it is sometimes really hard to keep a straight face when she finally gets it right.

When my mom and dad were here for thanksgiving my mom at one point turns to me and calls me by one of her sisters' names. I just blinked at her and said '<aunt's name>?' and she corrected herself. :P
