    I hate this, too.

Funny story, though: When Return of the Jedi first came out, one of my sisters and I went to see it on the first day. The theater was packed, and there was a lot of whispering (and some louder talking) during the beginning. That is, until a large guy down front stood up and yelled, "HEY!!!!!"

There followed a stunned silence, a few giggles, and then everybody shut up. Honestly, the guy sounded exactly like everybody's Dad warning the kids to settle down.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

I HATE people who talk loudly in theaters. I don't mind the occasional comments, but when it goes on and on, it wears on my nerves. I had a woman behind me who would NOT stop laughing at the top of her voice and commenting on every joke during a movie. I seriously can't remember a large portion of the film because she wouldn't STFU and kept distracting me.

Some funny things can come of these situations, though. I had gone to see Jurassic Park 3 with a family friend, and at one point in the movie a phone started to ring. Our family friend got irritated and yelled, "Answer your phone!" The nice gentleman on the screen proceeded to politely answer the prop phone.

Yes, the ringing had been a part of the movie. xD Everyone in the theater had a good laugh at our friend's expense.

^ This. Definitely. You paid to watch the movie, not hear some jerk's commentary on it.

That said, there's a special hell for people who talk in the theater.
Now that's just too funny! I like the comparison between movie talkers and child molesters
They say that God only gives us what we can handle. Apparently, God thinks I'm a bad ass.

Dammit. I remember this scene but can't remember the episode. Love Book. Love all of the Firefly/Serenity characters.

Thank you. That's why I didn't remember, I don't really like that episode too much so in rewatching Firefly I tend to skip it.

It's a great episode, though! So many quotable lines.

"I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you."

                  "I call it Vera."

                  "--the special hell."

Mind you, the sequel episode, "Trash" was great for quotes too. My favorite being "I SHAVED MY BEARD FOR YOU, WOMAN!"

I don't go to movies often, because I really struggle not to talk through them. I have to be in the right mood to be silent, and it's not fair to other people for me to show up, and talk all the way through.

So when I do go, I get irritated with people who talk. The worst ones are kids. When I saw My Bloody Valentine when it came out, there was a kid who looked about six or seven, who kept weeping in fear at points. Kid. Shut up. Get out.

I had to suffer through another child's inane questions in Avatar. Such intelligent observations as "they're blue!" or "That man's legs don't work." Why, this bastion of intelligence went on to observe, "that man isn't very nice."

Truly, this child is destined for greatness. I turned around several times to tell him to be quiet, but I finally had to hiss "shut the fuck up! I paid out the ass to see this damn movie, and all I can hear is you!"

His parents looked less than thrilled, but they kept him quiet, this time.

I have an escalation scale for chronic talkers.

                        1) Turn and lightly go Shush!
                        2) Turn, glare, louder Shush!
                        3) Turn, glare, soft Please stop talking (so as not to annoy other movie goers)
                        4) Turn, glare, indignant, "Shut up!", just a little louder. This often gets the attention of an employee who comes and fixes the problem.
                        5) Get up, find an employee, ask them to deal with the situation.
I use to follow this system too, but I found over time, my patience was running thinner as I learned they simply didn't care. It's now more like this:

                        1) Turn, tell them to shut up or I'll be finding an employee to remove them.
                        2) Find employee

I found the longer I waited to deal with it, the less I enjoyed the film. Better to take care of it right away.
Getting offended is a great way to avoid answering questions that make you sound dumb. - exmocaptainmoroni

I wouldn't so much blame the kid as the parents for that one. They're right up there with the geniuses that brought toddler to a screening of "Highlander: Endgame" that I went to....

Nine times out of ten, I agree with everyone's sentiment: if you're in a cinema, keep your mouth shut. However, on occasion, I don't follow that rule myself.

Case in point: my brother, a few friends and I went to see Legion when it came out. Now, that movie is so abysmally stupid, we were close to walking out several times. Instead, we ended up keeping a running commentary on the movie, entertaining ourselves and the handful of other people who'd come to watch it - and thought it was just as bad, as we did.
You gotta polish a memory like a stone. Chip off the parts that remind you it was just a game. Work it until it's indistinguishable from any other memory.

I'm going to save up all my movie ticket money for a huge plasma TV, a squishy cushy couch, and a popcorn machine. No wait, I don't like popcorn in theaters anyways. A wet bar. Then I'll have my own movie theater that's comfy and private.
