  • Chick-fil-a

    (I think this goes here)
So roomie and I were out so we went to the mall to get Chick-fil-a and go to Hot Topic. (bad idea, a Saturday so close to Christmas )
When we got to the food court Chick-fil-a's line was crazy long. We eventually got up to order and the cashier asked us how we were. I replied I was good and asked her how she was. That gave her pause and she was like 'um I'm ok.' And I asked her if many people ask her how she is. Her answer was no.
Ugh. I hate consumerism around Christmas.
I'm just glad I was able to maybe brighten a mall cashier's day.

I'm sure she would have appreciated it
If I'm calling my bank or anything like that and they say "hi you're through to **** how are you today? I always ask that back and I can tell that there is surprise that I have asked it sometimes. Politeness SHOULD just be a common courtesy.

I try to always ask the cashier how she/he is. Sometimes they do look surprised.

I say it if they say it, or if they don't look too busy -- if someone looks like they're in a rush I admit that I'll just say "Where's the ___? Thanks."

In my store, part of the "script" for approaching customers and selling to them is a friendly greeting. Some people advise against "how are you" because the response could be "oh, my car is busted and my boyfriend broke up with me &c. &c.". But, uh, no, that never happens. At least not in the context of the toy store, where the customer obviously has some money and is purchasing non-necessity items. Asking "how are you" shows consideration. The wording may be awkward and have an apparent different meaning, but ultimately that's not important. Anyways, they always say "I'm good, how are you?" in reply.

It is shameful to admit, but for the longest time I was pronouncing Chick-Fil-A as Chick-Fil-Uh instead of Chick-Fil-Ay. I laughed so hard when I realized one day I was prouncing it totally wrong.

I purposely pronounce it both ways.

IMO, Bob Evans has the best customer service for a sit-down restaurant, and Chik-Fil-UH (LOL, I did the same) has the best customer service for a fast-food restaurant. I'm imagining the employees are always happy not because of their corporate ethic, but that they're always off on Sundays. Sucks to be me when I get my hopes up and drive out to a Chik-Fil-UH on a Sunday only to realize 3/4 of the way there that they're closed on Sundays.

Chik-fil-a also seems to get proper scheduling and some actual good ideas from management. The one near me is packed for lunch nearly everyday. Not only do they have a double wrap-around drive-thru lane that was designed well, but they get enough people that they have a small crew outside who take orders (they have portable menus) and transmit them inside, so the drive thru keeps moving. Even when they're getting crushed by a crowd, I see and hear the drive thru person smiling and laughing, and often the manager is right there taking and making orders with the crew. It just seems like they really have their act together there.

From what I've heard Chick-fil-a is a really good place to work.

I did the same when we first started going to one, back at some mall up in NJ during my younger years. I don't remember when I found out it was Chick-Fil-AY.

Hubby loves their breakfast chicken biscuits, but sadly there are no locations close enough for him to easily grab one on work days. Oh well, he claims to be dieting anyway so I guess it's all for the best
