  • "There's bugs on them!!"

Bugs on what, you say ... produce at the grocery store? Somebody's fries? Potted plants?

    Nope ... postage stamps.

This is more of a 'hearing' and perhaps less a SC than just a 'WTF??' I went to a postal substation today to get some stamps and I commented that my chemistry teacher would love the stamps ... they have caterpillars, preying mantises, etc., on them. The woman behind the counter said a customer earlier in the day had recoiled in horror. "I'm not buying those! They have bugs on them!"

    Oookaaayy then ...

I have a friend with a deep seated phobia of bugs.

Well, if it was arachnids, I could see not wanting to touch 'em....but insects, big deal....

They're not on the side you lick.

This discussion took place while the nice lady was ringing up a bunch of low-cost stamps to fill out the necessary postage for each one because I was using this as an attempt to get rid of a lot of older stamps ... come to think of it, I should post her up on the 'Good' thread ...

The ones I was buying were not self-stick but only because I was buying them a couple at a time. If I'd bought a book of them, I'd probably have gotten the self-stick ones. Though that brings to mind the question of why Canada Post doesn't just make ALL stamps self-stick ... it would mean peeling off one or two at a time, rather than ripping apart one or two at a time ...

Single stamps probably aren't made self-stick because it would mean having to double the amount of paper required for issue, and reduce the number per-sheet because you'd have to leave room around them to seperate them for sale.

Bugs can be self-stick when squashed.... *runs*
