VISA is jerking you around. They know they'll never get their money back from the scammer.
That's why I'm tempted to just stop running around in circles and go straight to the supervisor. Then I can flat out ask him/her, "Has this woman been sick for 2 weeks straight, or is there some other reason we can't get a hold of her?" I'm really interested in hearing the supervisor's response.

I know the saying, "You get more flies with honey," but at this point, I'm tired of being nice. My mom tried to reason with the scam company, and they simply ignored us. Now she's trying to be nice to Visa in the hopes that they'll do their damn jobs. Well, guess what? Sometimes you have to be an asshole to get your point across.

I'm very close to becoming that asshole.

unfortunately, from my experience with a major appliance manufacturer, it's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease.

Blow up - I would have no reservations on doing so, but speak calmly - you're more likely to get them on your side if you are politely escalating, rather than screaming at them. It's the difference between doing the minimum required and doing something to help someone that sympathizes

        Update:

Okay, I actually managed to contact the rep on my first try. (I don't know, maybe she's in some kind of wacky time zone? It's weird that I easily got ahold of her at 12:20 pm on a Monday.

Anyway, she told me she had already re-opened the dispute (which had been previously closed due to non-activity, apparently) but hadn't yet had the chance to look at our dispute paperwork. She said she'd contact us if she had any further questions, and I told her to call either myself or my mother, NOT my grandmother. So hopefully the rest of this process will go smoothly.

maybe someone lit a fire under her ass because it was HER inactivity that closed it?

either that or she's still fluffing you

            Update:

            *snip*

So now I'm pissed. On Monday I have to try calling this woman again to see if she answers her phone. If she doesn't, I have to cart my grandmother over to the credit union and see if they can contact this woman from the inside (who knows? Maybe she'll answer her phone if they call her). If she doesn't, I might allow myself to lose my temper and call VISA myself, and flat out ask to speak to her supervisor. If her inability to do her damn job is going to cause our dispute to be closed, then I'm going to have words with her boss. Very angry words.
Moosenogger, did you try this (I was skim-reading so might have missed it)? Sometimes one of these huge corporations will respond much more smartly to a call from a financial institution than a call from a mere peasant (my experience with this is Mom's Phone Company -- they move their little buns fast enough when my bank calls, but when I do? Forget it.)

I am so appalled by these situations, where these elderly people can't believe ill of people and get suckered so badly. My mother's deteriorating condition has one benefit: if somebody calls (especially somebody with an accent she can't understand) she will slam the phone down so hard one can only hope (if they're legitimate telemarketers) that their eardrums don't explode.

Door-to-door scammers ... yeah, we're a bit worried about them. But bro has access to mom's bank accounts online and is watching them closely.

Her father was pretty funny about this sort of thing. He hated talking on the phone, for starters, so any scammers using the phone were already at a disadvantage. He told us about somebody who called him up with one of these get-rich-quick schemes -- you know, you give us all your money and we'll triple it in three months. Grandpa toyed with the guy for a few minutes before deciding to wrap it up.

Grandpa: "I got no money." (You have to imagine the incredibly heavy German accent.)

Scammer: "But you must have money. How do you eat if you don't have money?"

Grandpa: "Vell, den I go on der highways und I pick up pop bottles und beer bottles. Den I got money."

            Scammer:

About this point the scammer decided to wrap it up, LOL.

I'm the authorized representative for my company, I am the only person allowed to sign the paperwork to request company credit cards, not my choice the bank only allows one. Yet when one of my coworkers somehow got their company credit card statement address changed from the main office to their residence I'm now not authorized to change it back? Yeah right. Talked to the bank's VP of the Credit Dept. who got me in touch with a person who could find out what in the hell was going on. Within two days everything was straightened out - the statement address was changed back and I was informed that I do have the authority to change the statement address. It also helps that the Credit Dept. VP likes us.

Figers are vicious I tell ya. They crawl up your leg and steal your belly button lint.

              I'm a case study.

What happened to the coworker who did that?
How was I supposed to know someone was slipping you Birth Control in the food I've been making for you lately?
