  • You might want to rethink that...

So I'm currently trying to skim around for schools for my work placement later on this year (I want to do my research THOROUGHLY, so my plan is to locate the schools first, then watch them over the next few months). Most of the research has been through not only the webpage, but also their annual reports and school context statements (the former is as it says on the can. The latter is a statement explaining enrolment trends and the plans for the school overall, plus what the school offers for both students and staff).

Started reading the annual reports and one familiar acronym kept cropping up at me. The acronym? DIAF.

I think maybe that term isn't well-known, though. I never heard of it until I saw it on this board, recently.

      Fair enough.

The ONLY rules surrounding my placement are that I can't apply for a school where I already have a personal relationship with someone (for ethical reasons) and while there's no hard and fast rule about it, I shouldn't apply for a school where I was previously a student.

I'm not applying for special schools simply because I'm interested in the mainstreaming approach where possible. I already have a few schools in mind and while one of those IS a school where I was a student (K-4), the school has changed so dramatically that I wouldn't be able to tell where the old buildings end and the new ones begin. (the main reason behind my application for that school is that they have a very small special needs class for students in K-2 who are then mainstreamed after that)

Well I found out what the acronym means today:

it stands for DECS (Department of Education and Children's Services) Improvement and Accountability Framework.

              Yep.

For the record, the placements I'm doing are spread out over 2 years: one in the middle of this year and the other at the start of next year.
