Didn't witness this myself, and its not a customer, so I thought here would be better...
As I posted in General Work Chat, the retailer I work for is on the brink of going into administration. The CEO has until Thursday next week to come up with a rescue plan, before the administrators take over. Needless to say, a rather stressful time. But we're trying to remain chipper...what else can we do? I personally am hoping that the company remains afloat but closes some stores...it would mean my store would close, but at least we'd get redundancy, accrued holiday, and of course, this month's wages. If the company stays afloat, we'll get that. If they go bust, we get nothing, not even the wages we've earned.
So of course...a tough time.
Greatly helped by the support and sympathy of customers and other shop workers in our precinct, who are very lovely people. Its actually been very heartening!
But there is always one douche, eh?
YMCA Lady (YMCA-L) works in the YMCA charity store a few doors down, and comes in today, comes in and says very cheerily and happily, like everything is a huge joke; "Oooh so is everything half price now that you're closing down!"
(Not confirmed yet btw!)
My manager, L, gave her a hard look and said, flatly "Its not funny, actually."
YMCA-L apparently got a bit flustered and then said "Well, at least you'll get your wages!"
The deadline, Thursday next week, is also our payday. So L replied "Actually, we have no idea if we're going to be paid at all."
And here, YMCA-L apparently looked a bit shame-faced and murmured "I didn't know that".
So that little incident, you'd put down to an attempt at humour that failed, yes? Thats what I did, even though we were very unimpressed. I mean, yes WE had been making jokes all day, but that was just to try and get us through the day. Its not appreciated from others who have no idea what a bad situation we're in!
Well a couple of hours later, L was throwing rubbish/trash bags out into the bins behind the back of the shop. As she's doing so, YMCA-L happens to be walking by, and nosily asks "Ohh...is that stock you're throwing out?"
(I highly doubt we'd just throw stock out, I think they'd make an attempt to shift it!)
L said no.
YMCA-L says "Well, when you close down, give all your clothes racks and things to me, I'll put them to good use!"

L: "Fuck off".

L then slammed the door in her face.
