  • OBEY THE RULES.

    Your tip of the day:

When there are signs posted all over the library that read "PLEASE SILENCE YOUR CELL PHONES AND TAKE ALL CALLS OUTSIDE", you just MIGHT want to, um, actually DO what these signs want you to.

I swear, I'm the ONLY person who comes here who actually follows that rule. Even the people who put their phones on silent vibrate mode have to answer them right then and there.
~~ Every politician that opens their mouth on birth control only proves that we need more of it. ~~

That's because you actually read signs unlike most of the yahoos we read about on here!

To be honest, I do answer my phone in the library. But only for one person: my mom. Because she doesn't know how to send or read texts lol. It only lasts about 10 seconds to let her know I'm alive. And I do whisper at the same level as if I were discussing over a group project.

Everyone else gets a rejected call followed by a "library, can't talk, important?" text.

There's no real reason to have an actual conversation on your phone.

        Guilty as charged

In my defense, my reply consists of a soft 'I'll call back' *click*... and yes, my phone is set to silent vibration.
        I still miss my ex.
But my aim is getting better.

Can't stop wondering why anyone not able to read, would go to library?

My phone's always set on vibrate when I go to the library. No one has called me while I was in the library, just texted, but if they did, I'd simply go really fast to the foyer, where it's allowed and ask what was up.
"And so all the night-tide, I lie down by the side of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride!"
"Hallo elskan min/Trui ekki hvad timinn lidur"

To sit on the computers all day, hit on girls (who may or may not be of legal age), hang out with their "homies", sleep, score drugs.....pretty much anything not having to do with books.

My only problem with cellphone jammers is sometimes people have a valid reason to receive calls, no matter their location--like people waiting for organ transplants. (But I hope those folks are among the type who are polite enough to take the call outside once it comes in on a vibrate mode.)

In the library that I go to there is a computer room (soon to be a reading room too) that is a quiet room there is a big, huge, giant sign that says quiet room no talking no cell phones no exeptions but almost every time I go there there's always 1 idiot who thinks that sign doesn't mean them.

I confess I'll answer my phone in the library, and hold the conversation at the same level I'd use to talk to someone sitting next to me. Then again, I hate texting. Actually, I mostly hate cell phones, and most people know that, so if they're calling me it's probably important.

That's about what it's like at my library - ever since we got public computers with Internet access, that's what it seems like most people come here for that purpose. (One example being that we'll have people lined up before we open, and when they come in, they all head straight for the computers)

I don't go to the library anymore. They don't have any books.

Then you probably don't like the direction the libraries seem to be taking in general...

We allow cell phone calls in our library and you're even allowed to *gasps* TALK at normal volume!

Screaming and stuff is still no-no though.

Oddly, most people don't talk at normal in-door voices in the library...but hushed voices, whispering and the like. Same with cell phones, people still have this image in their head that we (library peoples) will shush them the moment they raise their voices...
