  • Someone has bad karma

Coming from dinner tonight at the mall we exited the elevator and turned the corner. There on the ground was a wad of money on the ground. We asked the Cookie Corner which was in front of it if they lost their tip jar, and they're like "No why?"
We tell them we found some money on the ground and we're taking it across the hall to the mall CS so if the owner comes by looking for it they can send them there. We go in fill out a form count the money and someone dropped $340!

We continue on our way to game store to get bf his game, and on our way back we're stopped and asked if we told anyone else about the money. We're like no, we found the money then went to mall CS...

Turns out someone went in and asked if anyone turned in any money. The lady at CS assumed it was the person who lost the $340 and handed it over w/o asking how much they lost. THEN the guy who actually lost the money goes in asking for it. The cs lady is freaking out. BF and I are like we didn't talk to anyone else, there was someone in the office when we first came in, but aside from them no one else knew about the money.

Who ever got it has bad karma now, I feel sorry for the guy who lost all that money.

You told the staff at a place that money was left there, right? Possible it was one of them? :/

I was thinking it might be someone that worked in that store, too. Easy to call a friend to go get it; especially when CS doesn't even bother asking about the amount (how stupid is that?!).

Or just someone that was listening when you asked about it.

Or someone who saw us pick up the money and walk into the CS across the hall.

Or, and I realise this is a remote possibilty at best, the could have just approached CS and asked about money on the off chance that there was something dropped in. At my old store we almost constantly had some amount of money in our lost and found. Our desk staff were about as lax as the one in the OP too....

I don't blame her - she did something incredibly stupid. I wouldn't be surprised if she gets reamed by her supervisor or flat-out fired.

And people wonder why I'm afraid to take anything to lost and found?

I had a couple people who would try and scam the L&F in various places I worked. I was a box Nazi over it though.

"Oh, you lost something? What was it?"

              "Uhhhh...a cell phone."

              "What brand?"

              "...Motorola?"

              "What color?"

              "...black?"

"What's the first name you have in your contact list?"

etc., etc., until eventually I let them know I know what they're doing and we don't have any cell phones in the box anyway, so shove off, chump.

People who have REALLY lost something won't ask to see the lost and found, they'll say "I've lost ____, have you seen it?" and will usually go straight into detail when asked to.
