  • THESE Boots Refuse To Do Some Walking!

So, the Boyfriend will be doing overtime for the rest of the foreseeable future because another employee, X, was fired. Why was X fired? Because X had used up ALL his vacation time for this year in January and the first half of February alone because he kept calling-out with the excuse that his car wouldn't start.

    The problem?

He lives 1/2 mile away from work. And refused to walk in. Even after Boyfriend confronted him with a "look I live 7 MILES away and I've walked/biked"

After his final warning, he was even told that if he had car trouble, another employee would give him a ride. After that, he didn't bother to call out, he just didn't show and then cussed-out the manager the last time he was confronted.

However, he was always bragging about how he didn't need this job because he could make 3-times as much with his side-job in home improvement, so Boyfriend suspects he had taken other jobs on the days he called-out, and was just holding on to this job for the insurance. Which he won't have now

Oh, and he probably won't get unemployment either, because they have a documented history of write-ups for him.

1/2 mile? Heck, I walk about a mile to work, and a mile back, most days. And I would not describe myself as "the athletic type".

It's so childish, but when my bf had a flat tire a few months ago, he was willing to skip 3 whole shifts of work because "I'm NOT gonna ask anyone for rides and I don't want rides from any of those idiots!".

Heck I walk half a mile to the gas station every other day just to buy cigarettes and soda.

Yeah, a few years ago I didn't have a car for nearly a month. Thankfully, it was April/May, so the weather wasn't absolutely frigid or horrid (but not exactly that great up until May started that year). I walked to the tanning salon and Kwik Trip, anywhere that was a mile or less away, when I couldn't catch a ride somewhere. However, I didn't feel very safe, so I only took what money I needed (or my debit card and ID) and kept it in a pocket or my hoodie pouch, never carried my purse, and kept my apartment key with me as well.

How absurd. Back when I was running the machine shop I had a trainee that I used to give rides to all the time, after I caught him walking to and from work the 7 miles between Leroy and Caledonia. [his car died and he was saving up for a new one. Dennis was really nice and offered to pay for gas but I literally went past their apartment anyway.]

He is insane, half a mile

I walk half a mile and .8 of a mile either side of my rail journey to work! The half a mile I don't even notice!

For a while, my bus would run late or not at all. I would always catch an earlier one to factor in for a late or missed bus. I wound up walking 2kms to get to work on more than a few occasions. (and yes I would get in on time, albeit very sweaty). Another coworker of mine lived further away from the store than I did and WOULD actually walk all the way over to the store-a good few blocks.

I used to have a co-worker who'd ride his bike back and forth to work in good weather. And he lived at least a couple miles away from work.

Even after he got his drivers license and his own vehicle, he'd still ride his bike when the weather was nice.

I could easily walk a mile to work. I walk more than that when just you know, going for a walk. However, any routes I would take to my job are totally unsafe without a car because of lack of sidewalks, snow pileup, and having to cross a 4-lane road into a mall area with no crosswalk of any kind.

I walk a mile and a half to work when I have school beforehand, even when it's snowing or raining.

Stupid and lazy...an incredibly dangerous combo. Man, I took a bus to my old job which was about 30 miles out from my house (where I lived only had low pay jobs and I had to go further north of the county to get the good paying jobs) all the way to the nearest intersection by my job, got off and then walked all the way down and that took almost an hour to walk from One end of the road to the other! I did have times where co-workers, friends and SO gave me rides at night and if it rained on my way to work but that all ended after I got my own car. I'm lucky now that I work from home now but I just get so appalled at how ridiculous some people can be!
