I have a similar issue with my neighbors I live in a corner lot so lots of curb space, except that everyone feels that since I have so much they can use it whenever they want. One even was about to call a tow company for my parent's car when they left it in front of my house when they went on a trip ( I live closer to the airport, cheaper cab fare ), because it was in 'their' space.
i'm betting they were pissy when they found out they couldn't tow your family's cars

Ok, I can kinda' see how some people might logically delude themselves into thinking they have the right to tow cars parked in the street in front of their own homes. But towing cars parked in front of someone else's home? That...I just...but...argh, I think my brain imploded.

When did people forget that parking and/or blocking a fire hydrant is a ticketing and sometimes a towing offense?
Not only that, according to this thread on officer.com, they will actually smash your windows and run the hose through your car.

i can believe that. if there's a fire in progress they're not going to let it burn while waiting for a tow truck.

and if the driver whines? too flipping bad

and speaking of the mother of all screwups... they had a good video at that site

Have you guys never seen that on tv shows or in movies? I believe Backdraft has a great example...

I guess its mostly related to the topic, had some neighbors move in and did a few things that just ticked me off right off the bat
              1. they put their moving trailer mostly on MY property, which also blocked a power company junction box
              2. ran my garbage can OVER and crushed it (had to call the city for a new one)
              3. left the trailer there for weeks, even when empty and
              4. refused to move it when I asked, until I called a company to tow it off my land.

Some people think they own everything it seems.
I would not have tolerated that for weeks. I wouldn't have tolerated it for five minutes.

A polite, "You've parked your truck on my property, please move it right away," would have been my first response.

If not complied with, a not so polite, "Move your truck off my property or I will call a tow truck to have it towed," would have been my second response.

Street parking is legal for anyone. There is NO reserved street parking. Period. The OP should tell the neighbor, "Please stop blocking my drive. If you do it again I will call a tow truck to tow your vehicle at your expense." Then follow through.

A friend of mine got irritated when someone parked in front of his house on Sunday (we'd just gotten back from the movies). I told him his only real complaint was that the person had parked in front of his mailbox. You can't obstruct a mailbox, any more than you can obstruct a fire hydrant.

When I was a kid, we used to have a sucky pair of neighbors (2-family house, both apartments' residents sucked). The tenant (downstairs) would regularly scream at us for daring to park our car on the street rather than in the alley, because we were taking up a spot that she needed to park her car in when she came home from work. Got news for you lady, the public on-street parking in Brooklyn is first-come, first-served; no such thing as reserved parking there. Meanwhile the owner (upstairs) would holler at us for parking in the alley rather than on the street: it was a shared driveway, barely one car wide, and he wanted to be able to park in it without either getting blocked in by us, or else having to move his car out of the way if we needed to get out when he was drunk (and he was always drunk, as far as I could tell). You couldn't win.

When we finally got fed up and moved, my parents bought a house three blocks away which had its own driveway, separated from the next door's driveway by a fence. My mom likes to say she bought a driveway that happened to have a house attached...

My idiot neighbors have found a new and improved way to irritate the neighborhood.

They live on a dead end street. One of them has one of those rolling basketball stands. They often get together for a street game on their street, which since they all live next to each other, is not a problem for anyone.

My street is a cross street; the corner is next to my house. I often make a right at that intersection to leave my neighborhood.

So where do they move their game? Onto my street . . . at the intersection.

They move when cars come, though they take their sweet time about it. But their relatives all sit on the curb, with their toddlers running all over the place . . . in the middle of a very busy intersection.

                  Argh!
