My husband does most of the cooking in our house. That started when I worked at a bank over 10 years ago. He was getting home over an hour and a half before I did and didn't want to wait for me to get home and start dinner. I've actually bought him cookbooks for gifts and one year bought him a slow cooker.

In our case, I actually do most of the cooking (I cook my own meals and I cook most of my wife's too because she's disabled and she can't get up and around too much).

I would have considered that if I was actually there to buy. I'm still browsing around for prices. I went in person just to see how it acutally looks.

I've gotten really, really good service there before, that's why I'm not as annoyed. Now, if he called me honey/babe/dear, then I would have walked out...

Seriously... if he said that I'd probably turn around and go right out the door. Similarly if a car salesman asked me what colour I wanted before talking about the more important features. They have to learn somehow. D: Be polite about it, but don't give him the sale.

Yes. He did assume a bit much. But think of it this way... you gave him excellent training on what NOT to say while trying to sell a product.

There we go, worded much better than I could've said
If it'd happened to me & my partner, I would've responded by cracking up into hysterical giggles - he does ALL the cooking!
This would've been me, too. Hubby does the lion's share of the real cooking. I slap dinner together on weekdays, but he does all the fancy experimental stuff and 99% of the baking (I do it out of necessity, he does it because he loves it). I would've just cracked up until the poor salesman looked confused.

I'm curious about what's going to happen when we go shopping for a washer and dryer...I do the cooking, boyfriend does the laundry XD

I'm a very outgoing person, so I do tend to take the lead in coversations.

Actually, I was talking to a customer of mine who I handled his claim when I was down in TN. He's very conscious of gender and race equality and told me on the phone yesterday that he wasn't sure which one of us was the manager (my manager, who is of a different race than I am, male and much older, was with me), so he (the customer) tried his best to give us equal eye contact and conversation time. Quirky guy, but very considerate!

I don't think you were sucky at all. You didn't swear, use abusive language, make threats or impossible demands. You simply pointed out his rudeness. You even pointed it out to him, and not to his manager. Don't feel bad, feel proud!

If you were taking the lead in talking about the stove, I would have made the same assumption, otherwise there's really no excuse for that kind of remark.

If that foot bath also has a vibrating massage, I'll take it!

Your situation reminded me of the Futurama episode where they go back to the 1950's and the salesman shows Lela a stove with a built in foot bath "since [she'll] be standing in front of the oven all day."

From what you've described, I can't tell if the salesman was ashamed of what he said or simply afraid he'd lose a sale because he let a sexist remark slip.

With the kitchen getting completely redone, new ceiling in the kitchen, new drywall in the bathroom, softwood floors getting redone and the fact that it comes with a fridge, I don't really mind buying a new stove. Plus, we're being gifted a lot of stuff from Mr. Wooden's family so we really don't have much to buy

Can I request that you make another thread somewhere about the fact that your apartment doesn't have a stove? I'm curious about that end of it.

If I didn't desperately need the car I got (which has everything that I needed) and the manager didn't get credit for my purchase (he passed me off to another salesguy), I really would have given him a piece of my mind and walked off.

Of course, I say that, but if it happens again, I'll just stew in my irritation and not actually say anything...
