Well, if yer ever down my way, think of that sort of thing as a compliment. A fair number of people here use "Brah" (a corruption of "bro") as a generic form of address, and "Cap" as the "honorific/respectful" form of the same.

My surname is uncommon where I am, so with children I go by 'Mrs V.'
With other adults, - well, let's say my name is Deborah (it isn't)*, and I like to go by Deb. Everyone - and I mean everyone - tries calling me 'Debbie' instead.
Grah.
Oh well. At least it's one of the variations of 'Deborah'.
* It's not Deborah/Deb/Debbie, but the pattern holds true.
